Time for a change!

Having a bit of a clear-out in Dads loft last week prior to a car boot (we made £65!!!) and found two thick A4 files full of printed emails from 03/12/96 to 1999 between myself and Mossman. I hadn't quite got used to the ephemeral nature of emails (the 03/12/96 actually representing my first ever email) and as these emails took over from our penpal letters using the old fashioned pen and ink method I think I felt that there needed to be a record of some sort!

Anyway, it occured to me my ridiculously optimistic Labour victory of 1997 email will be in there somewhere but I also sent to Mossman the following list of 16 reasons why Labour finally beat the tories for the first time since 1974/5, and as it becomes scarily apparent that we may shortly be ruled by the tories with the smarmiest most untrustworthy of slimeballs ever in charge I thought it might be fun to reprint these reasons. Now if only I could cut and paste words on paper!

" Eventually (as is always the case) there will be decided the official reason why the tories lost & labour won, but I'm going to brainstorm a few now - some are mine, some aren't!

1. Time for a change! Don't like neither, but I just want to see how Labour do.
2. The tories are evil blood-sucking satanists!
3. They needed an extra term to prove how rotten the tories are.
4. Just a standard move downwards after 10 years; 87 - Tor maj - 140(ish); 92 - Tor Maj - 20(ish) ; 97 - Lab Maj - 170(ish) (I still find this completely astounding!)
5. People don't vote for parties in turmoil. That's why they didn't vote for Labour in '87 and '83.
6. The tories are still evil blood-sucking satanists.
7. Everyone really likes that D-ream song.
8. People are more pro-europe than the tories think.
9. Tony Blair's such a nice young man with a winning smile.
10. The tabloids came out in favour of Tony and the tory papers gave John Major hell over Europe thus showing dis-unity in the party and making the voters wibble.
11. The tories didn't have a pop song nearly half as good as that D-ream one.
12. New labour have got so many tory policies that traditional tory voters don't feel threatened by them.
13. The tories are evil blood-sucking satanists (Honest!)
14. Tactical voting a-hoy!
15. The Conservative election broadcasts were complete shite.
16. People aren't scared of Labour anymore
"

So, are we just going to be swapping the words Labour to Tory for some of the above. Is it time for a change once more? I hope not because I still hold that THE TORIES ARE BLOOD-SUCKING SATANISTS!!! Look at David Camerons evil face - is that not the face of the great dark satanic leader??? I haven't been proved wrong yet anyway!

Depends what pop-song they get - didn't Collings & Herrin talk about that recently? Or was it Adam & Joe...?

They had "Shout to the Top" at the latest Tory Conference - outrageous - I hope the Red Wedge supporting Style Council sued their arses off!!!

(Think it was Collings & Herrin - have you been listening to As it occurs to me - episode 2 wasn't as good but it may be cos I wasn't in the best of moods!)

I thought the first episode was a shambolic mess, personally. Maybe because of my low expectations I then thought episode two was okay.

What did you think of episodes three and four - getting better and better methinx.

And while we're here as I can't be arsed finding the South Park blog.

Wrestling - very funny.
Can't remember last weeks right now.
Wasn't it Butters as pimp the week before wrestling. That was a goodie.
Last week has come to me - whaling - hmmmm... not sure about the stereotypes in this series but maybe I'm being overly sensitive.
And this weeks should be recording on my sky plus right now. No idea what it's about.

The F word - looks like it's going to be "politically incorrect" and then throws you a curve-ball. A pretty good'un I fink.

South Park is one of those shows that I seem to prefer on second viewing. Very rare for a comedy show.

I've been enjoying the shows again this autumn. Was also a bit concerned about the Japanese stereotyping, but (luckily) they made it all good in the last few seconds... turning the whole thing on it's head and making it about the "normal people" instead of the Japanese! As a semi-vegetarian, that made me laugh.

The F-word got a lot of sympathy from JazzMoss - we both hate idiots with loud motorbikes (especially since we used to live next to a road-junction in town) and so we completely agreed with the townsfolk sentiment.

Reminds me... I must find out what that anti-whaling TV show was all about...

Episode 13 - worthy topic for ridicule. Idiot right wing Fox news presenter but sadly lacking in laffs. Which unfortunately I think has been the case for a lot of Season 13 for me.

Seasons 11 & 12 were classics so all is not lost yet though. Roll on Season 14!

MossMan 18. November 2009, 16:06

For me, episode 13 was a bit of return to (bad) form of the last couple of seasons - draw a simile between some current topic (relevant to the US but meaningless to everyone else) and something unrelated in South Park's universe and just milk it and milk it for a whole episode... yawn.

I wonder if one of them writes these parody-trying-too-hard ones, and the other writes the more proper-fantasy-with-comedy ones.

P*nut McAllister the 3rd and a half 18. November 2009, 19:32

No - Trey Parker pretty much writes all of them on his own now.

MossMan 19. November 2009, 09:14

Oh really? Didn't it used to be more of a Lennon & McCartney type arrangement? What changed?

P*nut McAllister the 3rd and a half 20. November 2009, 23:23

Episode 14 - Have discovered I'm squeamish about pee!!!! Not bad though....

P*nut McAllister the 3rd and a half 20. November 2009, 23:27

Oh I answered your query about Trey Parker before. I even put in a Wikipedia link but it's gone! How strange! Well, I'll repeat myself then...

Trey Parker has written pretty much all of them since Season 4 on his tod. (I mentioned something about Season 2 having the most co-writers and hence it being Trey and Matts least favourite season)

And now I will re-find the wikipedia link....

NOw don't you go deleting yourself above comment, you hear?

MossMan 24. November 2009, 14:04

Gee thanks, Mr. South Park Ensighklohlohpeedeeaaah! I won't forget again now... :D

P*nut McAllister the 3rd and a half 25. November 2009, 10:12

Mossy - just realised how you interpreted my South Park comment. I wasn't having a go at you for forgetting me telling you beforehand at some dim distant point that Trey Parker wrote all the episodes. I was having a go at Myopera for apparently losing a comment I had written a couple of days before under this very blog. When I say "I'll repeat myself then" I say that because myopera has lost my previous comment, not that I'd told you before (which I hadn't!) I had included the wikipedia link in the comment that myopera had lost which is why I say "And now I will re-find the wikipedia link" in a sighing at Myopera for losing the comment I'd previously written rather than in a sighing at Mossman for forgetting what I had previously told him (which was nothing!)

Sorry for any offence inadvertedly caused! :D

MossMan 25. November 2009, 11:48

No offence incurred - but you're right that I thought you'd written it somewhere else long ago, not in direct response to my question above.

Whew! All's well that ends well...
