Livestock Diseases:RINGWORM

Ringworm is a fungal skin disease of livestock and human which is spread on contact and can also be spread by biting flies.

The most characteristic sign of the disease is round hairless ashy patches that form and spread all over the animals body.
Other clinical signs include:
;animal scratches itself against objects
;animal loses body condition
the patches may break open and form pus filled lessions

It is caused by a fungus known as Trichophyton verrucosum.

Control and Prevention

Isolate affected animals from the healthy herd.

Treatment;Make paste of Datura strominium(CAUTION-VERY POISONOUS!) and rub over the affected parts.

Restrain the animals head with X-neck yoke to prevent it from licking the treated parts.
