Self portrait at 35

What happened in history on June 25th? See here. We can now, unfortunately, add the deaths of Farah Fawcett and Michael Jackson to this list.

Really like that portrait Pam. Music too sad.

PainterWoman 26. June 2009, 03:36

Thanks Carol, Dirk and Linda.

Yeah, those two by Evanesance are sad but she is such a good and powerful singer and I love the videos. I added two more videos.

Dacotah 26. June 2009, 03:41

You are welcome Pam.

der Wandersmann 26. June 2009, 03:44

Yes. The portrait is excellent.

Oh.

Happy Birthday Pam.

PainterWoman 26. June 2009, 14:48

Allan, Leazz, Graham, Clance and Andy thank you. Sorry the cake melted from all the candles. What was left looked like pudding so I ate it with a spoon. :D

Dacotah 26. June 2009, 15:49

:D

Darko 26. June 2009, 21:42

Léazz 27. June 2009, 02:40

der Wandersmann 27. June 2009, 02:40

Luckily, I'm a diabetic, so I don't run the risk of being blinded by the glare of all those candles.

Edward Piercy 27. June 2009, 04:13

It seems you picked out all sorts of BD presents for yourself!

Here's one from me. It's a commercial but I love it. Especially the man showing his little girl how turtles swim.

You still look just like yourself. :D

(St. Jansday is forbidden? ....Uh oh. p: )

studio41 27. June 2009, 06:04

You are very gifted, Pam. I like the self-portrait a lot.

PainterWoman 27. June 2009, 13:03

Thanks Ed. I love that commercial. It's one of the few I sit and watch. Wonderfully done on their part.

Thank you Jill.

dW: I'm not sure if I'd feel lucky being a diabetic..... but I don't have sweets often. In fact, there was no cake at all. But every once in a while I drive five miles to this little place that has the best chocolate cake ever. I just might do that today after brunch with family.

der Wandersmann 27. June 2009, 14:34

I occasionally blow it out, too ... I just have to make sure there is some whiskey around. It helps burn up the extra sugar.

scott cumming 28. June 2009, 03:07

happy birthday to you pam :wizard: :hat:

i am stunned by the portrait. i do the same thing drawing myself, too too serious.

reminds me of a trick question... "are you happy?" "yes", "then tell it to your face." :D no, really, it's a good drawing.

Suntana 28. June 2009, 04:40

WwwwwWOW! :eyes: Yyy ... YOU drew that, Pam? I mean, sure, I know you're an ArTEEST :D ... but, Man! That is GOOD! YOU are GOOD - Amazing! :headbang: It is so realistic, so like your Pics that I've seen, that I immediately knew who it was before I even read that it was a self portrait.

Oh, and Happy Birthday again. It's not belated since I did catch you over at Peppermint's Blog. I had dropped by here shortly after I heard about it over there, but didn't see any signs of it here. I wasn't sure if you wanted it brought up here. So, I left it alone.

Zulia 29. June 2009, 17:29

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAM!
Wow that is a good painting! The eyes are so intense and got that 'dont mess with me look'

@Edward
:-o really! She is having the same birthday with me! Hahaha can I have her?

PainterWoman 30. June 2009, 15:47

Slipping in for a few minutes, then the pc goes off again.

dW: I ended up have a small chocalate brownie w/ pecans.

Issy: Thank you!

Scott: Thanks! I know! That's the thing with self portraits. What artist has a smile on their face when they are concentrating? At least I wasn't gritting my teeth.

Carlos: Thanks! I didn't want to put up a happy birthday to ME post.

Zulia: Thanks!. Ooooh, thanks for the link. Will have to check it out more in depth when I'm on here more than five minutes. In fact, I'm past my time slot anyway. I better pick it up a bit....type faster. :yikes:

Nic and Nevin: No need to be sorry! Thank you. I'm late lots of times.

I'm outta here now. Am past my five minutes. Off goes the pc. Will tell you all sometime what I'm working so hard on that keeps me from the pc. It's good in more ways than one though. I'm not sitting so much.

Nicolas Borgsmidt 30. June 2009, 17:53

 Thanks Pam

Naomi 30. June 2009, 23:29

Beautiful self-portrait.

PainterWoman 1. July 2009, 00:19

Thanks Naomi. Wish I still looked like that!

Shaunak De 3. July 2009, 04:57

Wow. That is an awesome self-portrait.
Amazing!

MJ was one of my favourite artists too. My top five MJ songs are: We are the World, Black or White, Thriller, Remember the Time and Childhood (Theme from "Free Willy 2").

PainterWoman 3. July 2009, 05:37

Thank you very much Shaunak and thanks for visiting.

MJ was the ultimate performer.

Pfelelep 10. July 2009, 12:30

beautiful portrait and happy b-day (a bit late) indeed

is it charcoal drawing?

PainterWoman 10. July 2009, 13:22

Thank you Pfelelep. Actually, it is done in graphite. The original is 8 1/2 inches x 11 inches so it was small enough to fit in my scanner. When I scanned it in, it did not show up well. Doing a 'quick fix' darkened it and now it looks like charcoal. Try as I might, I could not get the right 'fix' in between so that it was a bit darker but still looked like pencil.

Pfelelep 10. July 2009, 13:31

thanks for the explainations.
it sure looks great. Reminds me some Michelangelo's drawing

PainterWoman 10. July 2009, 13:44

Thanks. As assignments when I was going to school, we had to do 'master drawings', literally copy them, ten each semester. Quite a few of my studies were of Michelangelo's work. I probably have 40 or 50 of these small copies.

They are all 8 1/2 x 11 and I'll periodically scan them and do a post about them.

Doing these copies, I think, taught me more than one or two of the teachers at the colleges.

der Wandersmann 10. July 2009, 13:45

Should have set it for B&W line art, Pam.

PainterWoman 10. July 2009, 13:51

Ah dW, never thought of that. However, I'm not even sure if I have that. I have Corel X....I think. I tend to putz around with it, not really knowing what I'm doing. I try to always save the original scanned one, then make several experiments trying to get what I want but usually end up deleting them. There is much I've never used.

Working with a program is where I wouldn't mind having someone standing behind me saying: do this, now that, click here, etc.
