Art, Poetry and Life

What I am seeking is not the real and not the unreal but rather the unconscious, the mystery of the instinctive in the human race-Amedeo Modigliani

Peace Chain continues

Quite a while ago, Claude asked me to join the Peace Chain. I hesitated at first because I wanted my blog to be mainly about poetry and art. However, there comes a time when one changes their mind. This is the anniversary of a very horrific day in American History, in world history actually, and this was the day I changed my mind. Here is a poem I came up with and a bit of music from YouTube. Haven't named the poem yet....maybe A Reason for Peace?

We are bombarded with images
we don’t want to see
but since time immemorial
and across the seas
wars continue

and all for greed.

The power of greed
and all that it brings
is nothing but death
and the innocents’ last breath.

Can’t anyone forsee?

Innocents are sent
to kill more innocents
all of them believing
in what they’ve been told

so the story unfolds.

Death and destruction
that sickens my gut
but it never stops
till the powers that be

kick someone’s butt.

What is this desire
this insatiable fire
of the powers that be
to conquer all
when all that is needed

is the element of trust?

Is that too simple a solution
for the complex resolutions
of wars and revolutions?

Sit, talk, listen, think.

Peace, Tranquility and Love for all

Nice poem Pam  I feel that thanks to Internet, minds start to see the truth beyond the power's voices. Thank you very much for joining us, for the Peace
Just a thing: Would you add some links to the other contributors, please?

Rock and roll poetry Pam, I like it.

PainterWoman 11. September 2009, 19:18

Thank you Clance, Scott and Danny.

I was going to add a video by Stratovarius called Zenith of Power but it had such disturbing images of war, death and destruction that I decided not to. I still might but will have to put a disclaimer about the images.

The band is a new discovery for me and I love them. Will have to get their cds.

Stardancer 11. September 2009, 19:40

Lovely poem, Pam.

L2D2 11. September 2009, 20:06

Pam, I love the poem and the ideas it expresses, but, being a realist, I don't think this will ever happen because greed will always be in this world and as long as there is greed, there is war, as you said.

I like that music very much.

norfrid 11. September 2009, 20:31

Nice poem and music.

I guess what your poem said, is epitomized on some lower level by the behavior I used to see a lot on the AOL Message Boards where I used to hang out for years. It'd start out with a slight disagreement. Neither side wanted to be the wrong one, the weak one, the one to give in to the other's point of view. Neither side wanted to be the one to blink. It would quickly become a matter NOT of seriously trying to logically and civilly change the other person's point of view via facts ... but, rather a battle to Out Flame, Out Mudsling, Out Foul Language, embarrass and in general rip to shreds the opponent in ANY way possible. AND of course, have the last word.

I would always crack up when some people would always try to assure themselves the last word by going, "Oh, BTW, and don't bother replying. After this, I'll have you on ignore mode, so I won't even see whatever you write." Then the other person would of course reply. Then the 1st person would reply. And the 2nd person would go, "I thought you said you were going to put me on ignore mode."

So yeah, this mentality exists in all areas of society. So, it's not surprise that it exists between governments.

PainterWoman 15. September 2009, 15:14

You're right Carlos. There are leaders of many countries who trust no one and accuse everyone. There is a total lack of trust for many reasons.

I really don't know how this could be changed or if it's even possible. But I can only hope.

TheDarkKing 16. September 2009, 06:17

Hello Pam!!!

I remember this day like if was yesterday. I was on line and I saw everything havening almost at the same time, it was very shocking, specially when people starred jumping from the windows.

Four attacks occurred that day: World Trade Center's North Tower and the South Tower, The Pentagon, and a fourth flight whose ultimate target was thought to be either the United States Capitol or White House but crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania after the passengers(HEROES) on board engaged in a fight with the hijackers.

I feel so sad to remember this day but I feel worse to see all the Solders and Civilians die everyday fighting for something they don't even know.

We have to stop the way and try to start again, with a peaceful world where are kids can live free and without fear.

I love your poem Pam, specially the next part:

Zulia: Thanks. It took me a while to decide what to do. As soon as this anniversary came, the poem was in my head.

Ricardo: My feelings exactly.

Claude: Thank you again.

robertsglyn1 17. September 2009, 10:06

Hi Pam...I sure everything has been said but i needed added that is such a wonderfully expressed poem...and from the heart and soul!...Thank you ...Glyn

PainterWoman 17. September 2009, 10:16

Thank you Glyn. And thanks for visiting my blog.

Harrrie 20. September 2009, 19:45

interesting idea, the peace chain, and reading your poem it reminds me that we, as people, do not realise the potential impact our opinions would have if only we gave it voice more often. The power we hold in our vote, in our purse, in our opinion is always underestimated.

PainterWoman 20. September 2009, 19:50

Yes, it is an interesting idea Harrie....and a nice one too. We should send it to the leaders of all countries. I wonder if it would have any effect.

Arnekrilu 21. September 2009, 19:01

Thank you for your poem and the music link

FirestarXXX 24. September 2009, 21:53

... why so sad?

PainterWoman 29. September 2009, 20:00

I'm not sad at all. What gave you that idea?

FirestarXXX 1. October 2009, 00:22

the "..."

PainterWoman 1. October 2009, 00:44

I do that often. It means I am pausing or thinking.

daxonmacs 1. October 2009, 00:47

Homer: Doh! now the thinking got interrupted. Another great thought down the drain.:D

PainterWoman 1. October 2009, 01:17

 Mine always gets interrupted. By what, I have no idea.
