A 20min bus ride west of Alexandroupolis, is the small town of Makri. We're there right now, made a pit stop for caffeine on our way to the beach. Discovered this cafe named and modeled like a chateau. Nice garden, tables with a view to the sea, look above. Next, on to the beach.

I'm on the verge of dehydration right now. Oddly enough, I do not complain. After 76 straight hours on duty I got an afternoon off and so what there is no taxi to the nearest village? I only have to walk 3 miles under a burning Greek sun, and I'm there. Me and the sounds and sights of nature again. That and Relax by Mika playing loud on my phone. Yet another surreal experience up north. Wait.. I think I see houses..

The Alexandroupolis lighthouse. Is there such a thing as taking too many photos of the same lighthouse?
I wish I could travel around the Greek seas photographing the lighthouses left standing still. Anyone interested to sponsor this particular photo quest?

When not able to jump in the sea, better take cover under a tree and have coffee!

It's a sizzling hot Sunday in the Greek north today. 30 c degrees and a burning sun.
I need to get me some summer clothes and a swim-suit asap! Like NOW! Meanwhile I'll try to fool the heat stroke by snapping some shots of the sea at Alexandroupolis on my trusty mobile phone.

There seems to be something new to discover every time I have some time off and get to explore more of Greece's Evros prefecture. Wondering just a bit off the beaten track today, I found this small gorge rising on both sides of a quiet river. Despite the weather's rainy disposition, being there alone I was accompanied by a symphony of wild birds singing and butterflies testing out their new wings, moving clumsily from one flower to another.

ah, i may be as way up north in Greece as there is, but the scenery and scents are so reminiscent of the Greek islands.
