"Something just ain't right about that Boy"

Now It's Your Turn - "Part 2"

Now it's time to post your
all time favorite
Bands / Artist for all to see.

And be honest,
we're not here to judge.

Mine is not a complete list by any means. For the sake of room on the initial post, I have not included some of the more obvious choices I think we will all agree on . You may chose to list them if you wish, and feel free to use as much room as you like. The point of all this is to see what each other taste are, and maybe turn someone on to music they have not experienced before. Think about it, and have some fun on me.

And if like this post, you should really check out Mr. Rinses Excellent Music Blog

OK, here we go......... my picks in no special order of importance:

Jethro Tull

The early Tull albums are some of my favorites music.
Who can deny "Stand-Up" "Aqualung" and "Thick as a Brick" are classics?

Maria Muldaur
The Grand Lady of Southern Rhythm & Blues. She sings it the way it should be. One Classy Lady, and like Bonnie Raitt and Tracy Nelson , she has approached the music business on her own terms .
Musicians far and wide line up to take the stage with her.

Traffic
Over their years of evolution, from psychedelic pop to mesmerizing Caribbean jazz beats , Traffic was one of the ground breaking groups of rock music. Definitely one of my top 3 of all time.

Jean-luc Ponty
Frank Zappa to the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Ponty's Electric Synthesized Violin weaves interesting melodies through drum beats and wailing guitars. His own recordings are some of the most interesting music I have ever come across.

Cream
Three uniquely different musicians came together for a short time and created music that proved with enough amplification , all you need is three pieces. This is music musicians should seriously study. And that Eric Clapton fellow......I do think he's got a future.

Leo Kottke
A guitarist who never ceases to amaze me by what can be done with a acoustic twelve string Gibson. It sometime sounds like he has sixteen fingers. His live shows are incredible.

Paul Rogers

The many versions of Rogers, from the bands "Free" & "Bad Company" to the "The Firm" he has always delivered a solid combo of songwriting, guitar and an unmistakable voice .

Jimi Hendrix

There is nothing more I can say about him that hasn't already been said.
Ever wonder what music would be today had he lived?

John Mayall

Mayall's "Bluesbreakers " alumni included the likes of Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Coco Montoya, Mavis Staples, just to name a few, and he continues to make music with the greats and future greats of Blues. I have loved this mans music since I was old enough to appreciate it and continue to collect his records.

Crosby, Stills & Nash
I have always like these guys music, solo, together and the groups they originated from. Stephen Stills being the most prolific of the three, but not the best writer (I give that to Nash) also gave us the "Manassas" album which is one of my all time favorites. Nash's "Songs for Beginners" is also an extraordinary album. And of course, the fore-mentioned Crosby solo effort.

King Crimson
Trying to describe this bands work to someone who has never heard it is......well, impossible. Their early works, as with the early works of the bands "Yes" and "Emerson Lake & Palmer" are distinctly different and unlike anything before it. Interesting, ever evolving and never the same.

Sade

I simply love this woman's work and is my favorite music to play late at night when I'm alone. Sade is a extraordinary talent that, I believe is yet to reach her full potential. Her vocal range is unbelievable in a live performance and is held back only by her material. Oh, and did I mention this is some of the best "gettin it on" music you would ever believe.

Hot Tuna

Started as a side project by two members of the "Jefferson Airplane", Tuna continued to make records over the years from acoustic ballads to balls to the walls electric blues. Few bassist put their signature on music as Jack Cassidy does in the Tuna records, as well as The Airplane recordings. The Tuna's music catalog is high on my list of the best.

Robin Trower

Can't help but love this man's music, I was his tour drummer for 8 months. An amazing guitarist who's choice of playing smaller, more intimate venues, endeared him to his audiences. An original member of " Procol Harum", his early influences are given a ragged edge, a bit of controlled feedback and thrown at the listener. It's a combination that worked very well for him.

Steely Dan

What can I say.....
These guys have done some of the coolest music ever put down.

Yes
If this group had done no more than four records, I would think no less of their music. The original lineup of Yes was one of the most unique combination of talent to enter a studio. They will always rank in my top 3 of all time.

Dan Fogelberg

The late Dan Fogelberg was a master song writer and performer who's musicianship and product I have always admired . I carry most of his catalog with me when I travel. Not as well know as James Taylor, but every bit as important to music, he remained a private person. He died much to young.

Ashley Cleveland

I'll end the list with one of my favorite people in all the world!
Ashley Cleveland and I first met in a dimly lit studio in the early 1990's when she was hired to overdub a vocal track for a record I was involved in making. Not only was I taken by her sultry, bluesy voice, I quickly discovered we both had similar beliefs and life experiences and became instant friends, and we remain so to this day. She and her husband were the first of my close friends to come to my side when my life took a bad turn.
In the years since we first met, she made a career of her own as a singer/songwriter and, with support of her kick-ass band, has gone on to win 3 Grammy Awards as a crossover artist, and for her work on the cutting edge of Christian Rock Music.

Give her a listen.

Now it's your turn. Post em up.

We're waiting.

Do I dare to admit that I don't know many of the ones you posted? :left:

There are three bands, that I always seem to return to:

Deep Purple
Pink Floyd
Def Leppard

I don't think I'll ever be tired of those three.

Phantom2 6. October 2009, 19:20

 The original Deep Purple did one of my favorite songs of all time, (to be next post in the series) but without Richie Blackmore , it just ain't the same.

Kitty 6. October 2009, 19:22

I don't know anything about that - I just put the CDs on, lean back, shut my eyes and listen.

I've seen them in concert more than once though.

PainterWoman 6. October 2009, 19:29

Have not heard of a few of these and haven't heard 'Yes' in ages.

First names that come to mind are Robert Cray with that velvet voice; then Freddie Mercury. There is a YT video of him singing Barcelona with an opera singer...it is very moving.

I'll be back.

baby_2u 6. October 2009, 19:30

Lets see....here they are in no special order:

38 Special
Genesis
Chris De Burgh
Bob Dylan
CCR
The Eagles

Too many more to list here

Kitty 6. October 2009, 19:35

PW ~ I think that opera singer is Montserrat Caballé. Don't know if it's spelled right though, but I like that song as well.

Beheaded and Roy Orbison! That's diverse. Or should I say perverse.

Yeah! Good Stuff There! The Wiburys was a great idea. I always wondered who's idea that was?

Dennis 6. October 2009, 21:42

All of ^'em^ and more:
The Doobie Bros.(withOUT Michael McDonald.)
The Allmans
The Dixie Dregs
Captain Beyond
Loudon Wainright III
John Hiott
Mark Knopfler (with, or post Dire Straits)
Dave Edmunds
David Bromberg
*takes a deep breath*
None of the songs by these artists were written by me, a few pieces stand out in my mind:
''Dreams I'll Never See'' by Molly Hatchet (sounds like one of Neraks bands, don't it) a cover of the Allman Brothers tune. Arguably better than the original.

Dave Bromberg's cover of ''Nobody's Fault But Mine''
awesome.

:eyes: I'm either crossposting or offtopic. I don't know anymore!

According to Wikipedia, the group developed while recording Harrison's Cloud Nine album. Apparently malfunctioning recording equipment was introducing errors into the tracks, and Harrison kept saying, "We'll bury 'em in the mix." So that's where the name "Wilburys" came from. They were trying to make a B-side for his "This is Love" A-side, and they decided the stuff was too good to leave it at that.

Phantom2 6. October 2009, 21:51

Dennis, that's one F**kin great list.

The Dregs, Captain Beyond & Loudon Wainright III...:sing: There's a dead skunk in the middle of the road....:sing: dead skunk in the middle of the road....

Unbelievable, that makes me the bigger bad ass, since I did have an Alice Cooper album. I wasn't into Ozzy Osbourne, but I have to confess to enjoying the self-deprecating humor he's been displaying in his commercials.

I also had a Ray Stevens album ("Raindrops keep falling on my head..."). I obviously was having musical identity problems as a young teen. :D

Stardancer 7. October 2009, 02:28

Dean Martin
Marty Robbins
Three Dog Night
Steely Dan
B.B. King
Elvis Presley
Roger Miller
Michael Franks
Cash
Bunches of local bands
Fogelberg
Haggard
Clapton
ZZ Top
Strait
and the list goes on and on

Linda 7. October 2009, 04:43

P2, who is the dude who sang Amos Moses? I like him too. Can't drag up his name. Think Iwill go look. I liked Joe South, too. No, that was Jerry Reed. Am thinking of another guy who sang Louisiana songs. Odd name. Rats!

baby_2u 7. October 2009, 04:57

Jerry Reed sang Amos Moses ... Tony Joe White also sang Louisiana songs like - Polk Salad Annie ...and then there is Harry Connick, Jr

Linda 7. October 2009, 07:01

Tony Joe White was the one I had in mind. Thank you very much. Also, Doug Kershaw. I really did like Tony Joe White.

Seriously, this is such a fun idea.
I hardly dare putting any fav artists up - what if I forget a bunch?

Eggstone
bob hund
kent
Depeche Mode
Cure

I did get quite a few ideas for that next (song) post now, though
