Disconnected Running & Holiday Jottings

and other Detritus

KEEPING UP TO DATE 19/11/10

Lately I have been pleasantly engaged in cyber discourse with my old infant school pal Brian Seddon. We were at Farnborough Road School Birkdale Southport circa 1952 if you please!! He's now retired from being one of UK's "finest" and lives an active life which includes an interest in vintage cars and travelling abroad. Also I have been emailing Courtfield College Blackpool chum Darryl Hartley-Leonard. We sat in the same classroom about 50 years ago and he must have taken more notice of our lecturers than I, as he went on to become Chairman and CEO of Hyatt Hotels.
Job wise, I am still happily and gainfully employed as a porter at Gidleigh Park Hotel http://www.gidleigh.com/ where we have recently been awarded Sunday Times Best UK Hotel, Restaurant and Wine List. Also Conde Nast Johansens Most Excellent Restaurant in the UK, all in one week, so everyone is very proud.
Running has been sparse for a week or two as my old foe the sciatic nerve has been putting in a tri yearly appearance. It's getting better now and Saturday November 27th sees me on a Leadership in Running Fitness course with Run in England http://www.runinengland.co.uk/ with a view to forming a running group locally. Hopefully sciatica will stay away for another 3 years.
I am still doing voluntary work at the Moretonhampstead sports centre and Julie continues to slave away at her unpaid (but rewarding) posts in Moreton.
Our first Christmas here is nigh and we look forward to enjoying the village festive season. Street decorations, shops with traditional bunting, hot chestnuts vendor, mulled wine and log fire at the White Horse and all the other holiday trimmings.
