Its hard to be creative

these days, at least...

Well here is my first piece of artwork I am uploading. I think my portfolio is starting to look like an actual portfolio, and it might gain some attention from the schools I want to get into. But you can decide. This is a conceptual piece, inspired by an artist I found on one of my friends myspace pages. I get bored doing still life's and pencil drawings, so I go crazy and make things like this. I don't know what it means, its usually just me getting things out in my artwork. 18 x 24, Mixed media (ink, pastel), took around 5-6 hours to do if I had to guess. I love the look and feeling splatter gives to a piece, so I went crazy with it as a background and a good setting of tone for what I had in mind on top of the ink. I tried to use organic shapes, but wanted the pieces of the heart pop more. The color scheme is something I'm not sure of, I wanted to keep it in the red/pink values. I really didn't do much with color before a few months ago, so I'm still trying to understand how it changes a composition. I like to do a lot with small detail, so its a much more intimate piece when you see it first person, so a good amount of detail is hard to see in the picture, if you can blow it up give it a quick look. I try to get as much expression out of a line as possible, and make em real crazy and fun.

Also some other news... I got a PS3 yesterday! WOW it's amazing. I have been on the thing for hours today without any kind of boredom setting in, much more than I can say about the previous Xbox 360 I sold to purchase it. And I'm completely excited for a bunch of games coming out within the next months, like GTA IV, Call of Duty 4, Assassins Creed, Rock Band and most of all, Little Big Planet. And I got to download a video of the new Metal Gear, which is the reason why I love games so much, so I'm basically a happy person now. So thats life at the moment.

I wish I knew more about contemporary art. Right now if I take a brush probably I would try to paint like Michelangelo or Raffaello.

Hey Phil, italian roots?
