Dark mornings

I normally wake up between sive and six and get out of bed almost immediately so apart from the middle of summer it's always dark when I first look out of the window.
This morning, after after a couple of particulary tiring days I woke up at 7:25. This is like a lie in for me (or as we say in 'la grasse matinée' - fat morning litterally).
Being so late (relatively) I was quite surprise that is was still dark outside. The winter is really creeping up on us fast.
In Europe we pratice Daylight Saving Time, it's an old system that makes us put the clocks back an hour in winter say that it's not so dark when you get up in the morning. It's supposed to say energy. But I think that what people don't use during that hour in the morning, they'll use in the evening. It also means that around 4pm it's nighttime. That's not too good for the moral either.
Is daylight saving time practiced everywhere?
