Jaguars were once found as far north as the Red River, but, like most North American predators, their fortunes in the last couple of centuries make for grim reading sad

Without passing judgement on precisely what happened in this instance, there is certainly a risk whenever wild animals are live-trapped, and the scientific community doesn't always seem very keen to talk about this aspect. Some researchers (including Paul Paquet, a Canadian wolf biologist) are now attempting to find less invasive ways of studying their movements.
