Extensions can be used for that, but IMHO that is absolute overkill as long as the bookmarklet is not or can not be converted so that it can run completely without connecting to a 3rd party server (in this case Yahoo!), like I did i.e. with the old readability bookmarklet.
An extension might be OK for other browsers, but Opera has customizable buttons since centuries (at least in web ages) and with a little bit more love, like adding base64 encoded custom icons and brackets, buttons could become really great.
IMHO there is no no need for the extension hype in this case, creating a button from a bookmarklet is even more straightforward, if you use one of the many button creators out there. If you don't want to build it by yourself, you can just use this button that I created in about 6s:
YSlow <- drag and drop this link to the toolbar you like
If you use the standard skin, the button graphic looks even nicer than the extensions graphic.
Benefit: You can drag and drop it to any toolbar you like!
