Quran: Book of Islam

Contrary to the teachings of the Quran which prohibits any division of Muslims into sects, they have been subject to division and disintegration for the last few centuries, which is a result of this as a natural consequence of predecessor worship. Difference of opinion does occur among human beings and did occur even amongst the companions of the Messenger but they did not allow themselves to be divided into sects. But since the start of ancestral worship, the followers of particular Imams took their respective Imams to be infallible and assumed that the truth lay they said in matters of life. In other words all the others, besides them (the Imams) said was mere falsehood. This divided the Muslims among themselves and every sect became content with what the Imams gave them. From then onwards each sect struggled hard to prove that they themselves were right and others were wrong. They became devoid of tolerance and also of self effort to find out what was right and what was wrong. Thus they were not prepared to hear a word against their own particular belief not because they had good reason to do so but because anything going against the belief of their ancestors was impossible for them to tolerate. The differences between the sects are not necessarily on basic issues; even the differences on petty things have separated them from each other. The curious aspect of this situation lies in the fact that the laws of Fiqa are now the vestigial remnants of the Muslim rules from the past. Not a single Muslim or Islamic State based on Islamic principles which exist today but the differences based on the Fiqa laws continue to exist. A lot of energy is being wasted to keep up differences, in a same way least effort is being made to revive the Islamic state.

Because of this divisions and disintegration among muslims give us a clear picture of the Muslim world today it is hard to find something positive on the horizon. There is political chaos, fanatic society and regional turmoil all over the Muslim world. Muslims seem to have lost control of their affairs, they feel frustrated and helpless. Many Muslim governments are persecuting their people in the name of Islam and muslim priests exploits common people in the name of Islam. So we Muslims hope for a better future under these circumstances?

Islam is a divine message from Allah Almighty for the entire humankind. The structures (Pillars) that would support the building of Islam would have to be strong, purposeful, powerful and pragmatic. This is because that Islam is not a dogma, but imaging for how long? How long will we continue to follow the paths that have leaded us collectively to absolutely nowhere? Except to immobility, stagnation, divisions, fragmentation, fighting amongst ourselves and to the absolute ruin of generations of the people that Allah Almighty created to lead Mankind to the promised land.

For God sake it is about time that Muslims took stock of their lot and realized that there is no such thing as they. For they never change. It is we who will have to change. In the words of Dr. Allama Iqbal " O! Muslims if you desire to live your life as a Momin (believer), you have no choice except to make the Quran your guiding light". We will have to cleanse our minds of the Religion (Mazhab) of Islam and return to the Deen-ul-Haq. We will have to follow the revelation given unto us by our Rabb, and follow not as friends and protectors other than Him (Quran 7:3). We will therefore, have to disregard all other books written by men and seek guidance only from the Book sent down to us in truth, that we may establish the rule between men, as guided by Allah Almighty (Quran 4:105).

We will have to demand from our respective Muslim Governments that they fulfill the promise that Allah Almighty has made to us. As Allah Almighty has said, they lose the right to our obedience. We will have to demand what is rightfully ours, the benefits of the system of Rabubiyyat (nourishment and development) which are manifest when the Salat and Zakat is established. Dear readers the responsibility is ours. May Allah Almighty grant us the wisdom, courage and the strength to claim that which is ours by right?

If the political parties are unable to produce leaders, we cannot wait for them forever to do so. We in Pakistan do not have the luxury of time. The military can and will prevail over the threats facing us for the time being, but who will assume the challenge of making Pakistan an attractive place for its citizens? Pakistan’s existing ‘national leadership has been a failure in the best of times. Our challenges are tall and our leaders are pygmies. To move forward, Pakistan needs a new deal for the 21st century. And this deal cannot come through the ballot for the foreseeable future. Our best chance is for Pakistan’s best and brightest – outside the realm of our failed parties and a failed system – to step forward with a plan to remodel the state.

The worst part of the continuing instability in Pakistan since 2007 is that it is fast pushing this nation’s best and brightest to lose hope. The doomsday reporting on Pakistan in the Am-Brit [American-British] media – which appears more like a war campaign than reporting – is devastating the national psyche. But this would not have been problematic had our national leadership been up to the challenge. This leadership has been a failure in the best of times. Now our challenges are tall and our leaders are pygmies by comparison. I know Pakistani businessmen who made fortunes out of providing uninterrupted high-value services to the banking industry who are forced now to contemplate migration because they are losing hope. Their incomes are intact but it is the quality of their lives in Pakistan’s biggest city that they are concerned about. The military institution is strong and is capable of holding Pakistan’s stability and integrity despite the alarm and the unanswered questions over how our situation deteriorated over the past four years and how our homeland has become exposed to multiple foreign players wreaking havoc here, not to mention why we have allowed ourselves to blindly trust one superpower with our interests. The military can and will prevail over the threats facing us for the time being, but who will assume the challenge of reviving the national spirit, remodeling national politics and initiate the hard task of making Pakistan an attractive place for its citizens?

The political parties are unmitigated failures and cannot run a democracy. None of these parties today has a national agenda. Most of them have shrunk into narrow regional or ethnic interests. None of them has a working party system that produces leaders since most of these parties operate as one-man shows or as family-run businesses in their most primitive forms. If handed over power tomorrow morning, there is hardly any party out there that can come up with better plans or policies than the one currently in office. And while this failure continues, the ethnic-based provincial division of the state is turning every administrative issue into an ethnic flashpoint. Some politicians and political parties are manufacturing ethnic tensions for political gain. Foreign players are exploiting this and courting separatism in Pakistan as a vehicle for pushing their own interests. It is an irony that there isn’t a single political party in Pakistan today that raises the flag of Pakistani nationalism. There was a time when India, our perennial enemy-friend, used to be the only bastion of advocates of separatism in Pakistan. But today we see the center of gravity of this trend moving to Washington, for various reasons. But these are fallouts. The strings are still in our hands and no one can mess with us if we put our house in order. But who will do it in Pakistan?

The time for this was the 20th century when nations took their time to develop their national systems. We wasted that opportunity. Both an elected civilian leader and a military ruler – Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Ayub Khan – made good starts but messed up in the end. To move forward, Pakistan needs a new deal for the 21st century. And this deal cannot come through the ballot for the foreseeable future. Our best chance is for Pakistan’s best and brightest – outside the realm of our failed parties and a failed system – to step forward with a plan to remodel the state, change the constitution and create an environment for real political parties to grow and prosper. This is the only way left to bring capable and creative civilian administrators to power. Such a civilian administration can and must borrow the support of the military institution for such a grand project of national rebuilding. As we make a final push to expel America’s failed war encroaching into our territory in our northern and western regions, the wider national perspective must not be missed. A vibrant, creative and emerging Pakistan is still possible. But for this to happen, Pakistan’s thinking classes, the media and the public opinion will have to support creative out-of-the-box thinking. The time to stop the rot is here. This is the time for the American people to rise up and stop their warmongering government from more bloodshed in other people’s lands. Mountain villages that once rarely saw a car are now the targets of pilotless drones—the latest deadly gimmick in a remote-controlled war where the actual pilots sit in Arizona or Nevada. These automatons of the U.S. Air Force, trained on computer games to have absolutely no conscience or sense of humanity, push buttons that tell the Predator and Reaper drones to rain down real bombs and Hellfire missiles on their targets, incinerating whole families. How can they then go home at the end of the day and react with normal human feelings? Ah, but the U.S. military has hired whole schools of people with degrees in psychology to help them shake off any feelings of guilt or shame.

This is the total moral bankruptcy that a permanent warfare state produces. It is the mindset cultivated by a ruling class that values the world’s people only as labor to be exploited in pursuit of profit—all in the name of “progress” and “development.” Those who stand in the way, even if they are only defending the land and homes that sheltered their folk back into the mists of time, are expendable. But to hear the generals and the politicians in Washington tell it, the U.S. is very worried about the “stability” of Pakistan. Joint Chiefs of Staff head Adm. Mike Mullen says he is “gravely concerned” about Taliban advances in Pakistan and Afghanistan. National security adviser Gen. James L. Jones described the situation in Pakistan as “one of the very most serious problems we face.” Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton even called Pakistan a “mortal threat” to the U.S. because it possesses nuclear weapons.

These highly publicized statements are meant to soften up the population here for even more U.S. intervention in Pakistan. They also provide Congress with an excuse to pass another whopping “supplemental” bill, now circulating in Congress and reported to have risen to $94 billion. This amount is just to pay for the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and now Pakistan. Since 9/11, the total spent on these supplemental appropriations—which are above and beyond the regular Pentagon budget—will add up to almost $1 trillion. In addition, the Pentagon routinely gets more than half a trillion dollars every year, supposedly to keep us all “safer,” even as tens of millions lose their homes and jobs because of the capitalist economic crisis. According to an article in Congress Daily, the current supplemental bill includes “$400 million to train and equip the Pakistan military, a central piece of the new strategy for Pakistan and Afghanistan announced by President Obama last month.”

Pakistan has suffered for decades under a series of military dictatorships supported by Washington and the Pentagon. The result has been great wealth for a few well-connected families and abysmal poverty for the vast majority. A rebellion against the last military dictator, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, ushered in a civilian government but one that is weak, corrupt and afraid to go against U.S. dictates. This has only fueled the Islamic opposition, which is strongest in the border areas with Afghanistan where the Pentagon has been openly violating Pakistan’s sovereignty for some time, bombings its villages with pilotless drones and staging attacks by Special Forces troops. Thousands of people began fleeing the region when the Pakistani army, under strong pressure from Washington, began an offensive just one day before President Asif Ali Zardari was scheduled to meet President Barack Obama in Washington. Some half a million have been made refugees since the fighting began. The U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan created this terrible situation in Pakistan. The people in the U.S. showed in 2006 and 2008 that they don’t want any of these wars. But elections don’t end imperialist wars. Only the independent, militant struggle of the people can bring the troops home and stop the killing.

In Arabic language this whole programmed is called Rabubiyyat, which means to provide nourishment, physical as well as mental. The one Who does so is called Rabb - Nourisher. In Quran the word Rabb come for Allah Almighty because He has created means for the nourishment of human body and has also created the faculty of learning in man. But in spite of all that, you know that there are so many people in the world who do not get enough food to appease their appetite, nor enough clothes to cover their bodies, nor do they own houses to live in, nor have they got enough means to get themselves treated during illness and nor have they any arrangement for the education of their children. In other words, they have not got enough means either for their own nourishment or for the physical and mental development of their children. Why it so happen, inspite of the fact that Allah Almighty has provided enough means for the maintenance of human beings? This is because the proper arrangement do not exist. It is the duty of Momins - Believers to make adequate arrangements so that all human beings are properly fed and their children are brought up in a proper way. The society in which such arrangements exist is called an Islamic Society or Islam symbol, and the way in which it get accomplished is called Islamic Moashrat, which means to live a life of Mutual cooperation, under Divine guidance.
