ROSSINI VAN WIJK

Rossini van Wijk has been invited by the board of the Carnival Organisation of Cartagena, Spain, to officially open the festivities as an International Costume Designer, and as a guest of honour during all celebrations.
The invitation was extended by the president of the Carnival Organisation of Cartagena, Mrs Carmen Sanchez-Sanchez.
Rossini will also be representing Holland as official embassador for the FECC (Federation Of European Carnival Cities.

Carnival Queens

Over the years, Rossini van Wijk has trained many beautiful and talented girls, who all had the dream, of one day becoming a carnival queen.
Becoming a queen is not easy, there is a lot of competition going on, and a real queen is an ambassador, a face, a spokesperson, who will not only be representing herself, but sometimes also a carnival group, an organisation, a school, a club, a district, a state, a city and yes, sometimes even a whole country!
Girls who want to become a queen, not only have to look presentable, they have to be able to give speeches in public, be able to improvise, be able to dance, be able to present, carry and know everything about different types of costumes, with or without headpieces, shoulderpieces or pieces.
Being a carnival queen also puts you in the spot, and you will have to do interviews for magazines, radio and tv programs and you will be getting many invatations to attend different types of social events.
This means that you will always have to look your best, no matter what, and be able to smile and shake hands forever and do this charmingly and elegantly, for you are a spokesperson, an embassador for a very important social and cultural event.

Rossini van Wijk has trained and prepared many candidates, all expiring to be a queen, be it a beauty queen or a carnival queen.
He has also designed the different outfits needed for the queen election, such as casual wear, evening going and ofcourse the carnival costumes.
Rossini s designes have also won several prices for best costume and some candidates have also won with best show, all of which was choreographed by Rossini van Wijk.
Many candidates in Holland and Aruba have won several prizes.
In Aruba carnival is a huge celebration and lasts for nearly two months, with the two big parades in San Nicolaas and Oranjestad.
Preparations start as soon as the big parade finishes and everybody is looking forward to the next year.
In Holland the yearly carnival parade is in Rotterdam and attracts hundred thousands people each year and has become one of Holland's biggest social and multicultiral attractions.

1994 Afranina Henriquez becomes the first runner up for the 40 th annual Aruba carnival.
Representing glamour, she also won best costume with a design by by Rossini van Wijk.

1995 Anabela da Silva wins best costume in Hollands carnival queens election with Rossini's
design.

1996 Shakira Arrindell becomes first Arubian carnival queen in Holland.
Representing all Arubians, fans and friends in Holland and leading the Arubian group
Aruba Uni for kingdoms under the sun, during the carnival in Holland.
Shakira won best costume, designed by Rossini van Wijk.

1997 Tiziana Vrolijk becomes first Arubian carnival queen for children in Holland.
Representing all the Arubian children living in Holland, she participated in Aruba's
big children parade.
Tiziana won "queen of bands" a title reserved for best costume and presentation in Aruba
during the parade.
It is avery important prize, since it is won from thousands of participants.

1998 Natasha Slooten becomes queen for"kingdoms under the sun" in Holland.

2003 Yaiskibelle Marin becomes queen for "kingdoms under the sun" in Holland.

2004 Zahaira Marin becomes Arubian carnival queen in Holland representing Aruba Uni for
"kingdoms under the sun"
Zahaira wins best costume as well.
Zahaira Marin is chosen as queen summer carnival and becomes Holland's carnival queen.
Zahaira also won the title best costume in Hollands queen election.

2005 Imara Thomas becomes queen for "kingdoms under the sun"
Imara Thomas also won the title for Carnival Queen Holland.

2006 Ruthline Werleman wins title of queen "kingdoms under the sun"

2007 Marcie de Jongh becomes queen for "kingdoms under the sun"

Marcie de Jongh also won the title for Carnival Queen Holand.

2008 Gishlaine Paula becomes Queen for "kingdoms Under The Sun"

BEST CARNIVAL GROUP “KINGDOMS UNDER THE SUN”

Kingdoms Under The Sun is a carnival group which is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and which was founded in 1998 by Rossini van Wijk..
Although the roots of this group is formed by Arubans, plus their fans and friends, and is based on the way the Arubans celebrate Carnival, over the years many members originating from many countries has joined this multicultural carnival group.
Today “Kingdoms Under The Sun” boasts members originating not only from Aruba, but also from Bonaire, Curacao, St. Maarten, Saba, St Eustatius, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Surinam, Brazil, Cuba, The Dominican Republic, USA, Trinidad & Tobago, China, Italy, France, Spain, Morocco, Cabo Verde, and from the Netherlands itself.

The first year that “Kingdoms Under The Sun” presented during the Zomer Carnaval in Rotterdam, the group won the first prize as in Best Group, and the group leader, Rossini himself, won first prize for Best Individual Costume, Representing the Flag and Anthem of this beautiful island.
The Theme for 1998 was “HERALDRY OF ARUBA” and the costume of the floor members was based on the clothes worn by the Arawak Indians, the native inhabitants of the island of Aruba.
Queen for “Kingdoms Under The Sun” for that year was the charming miss Natasha Slootenenter here to Kingdoms Under The Sun

The Second Year “Kingdoms Under The Sun” participated, was 2003, and the theme was “ MESSENGERS OF THE SUN” .
This Year the group only participated, but did not compete for prizes, since the input was low key, due to the passing of its director and group leader’s mother, Rossini van Wijk.
Queen for this year was the beautiful Yaiskybell Marin.

For the following year, 2004, the theme was “ CELEBRATION”, referring to the celebration of Aruba’s 50th year of Carnival.
The group was among the ones with the highest scores, and Rossini won one of the prizes for Best Individual Costume.
That year, “Kingdoms Under The Sun” opened the big parade during the Zomercarnaval 2004 in Rotterdam, due to the fact that the group’s Queen, the talented Zahaira Marin, won the title of “Carnival Queen for The Netherlands, 2004” This is a very honorable title, since it is won during the big Queen Election, in which several candidates of different groups, vie for this most distinguished title.
The Carnival Queen of the Netherlands, represents the whole country during the period of one year, and is the face and representative of the Carnival for The Netherlands both on national and international level.

2005, the theme for “Kingdoms Under The Sun” was “GODS OF THE OLYMPIA”
And again, the group was among those with the highest score.
Once more, “Kingdoms Under The Sun” opened the parade, because for the second year in a row, the group’s Queen won the title of “Carnival Queen for the Netherlands 2005”.
This year, the Queen was the multi talented Imara Thomas, who got the highest score during the Queen Election in Rotterdam.

The next year, 2006, the group had as theme “RETURN TO BABYLON”.
Once more the group won several prizes as being amongst the highest scored, including Best Group, Best Float and Best Individual, which again was won by Rossini van Wijk, who’s theme for his costume for that year was “NEBUDKADNESSAR”
Queen for 2006 was the beautiful Ruthline Werleman.


For 2007 The group once more headed the Zomercarnaval for Holland, when Marcie de Jongh won Carnival Queen.
This year the groups theme was "Legends of Atlantis".
Once More The group won several prizes, while the float for the Queen was one of the nicest ones during the whole of the Zomercarnaval's history.

For 2008 Kingdoms Under The Sun participated in the "T-PARADE" in Tilburg, Holland, with some of its most beautiful costumes, joing the group of "VIVA VENEZUELA" in Native Amazones costumes by the hand of Rossini van Wijk. The Queen for this year was the beautiful miss Gishlaine Paula.

For 2009, The groups theme will be "SECRETS OF EL DORADO", depicting Amazones Natives Fantasy, in beautiful costumes and designs of which the color GOLD will play the leading role.
Queen for 2009 will be the gracious miss Emely Burkley, who in 2001, was elected YOUTH CARNIVAL QUEEN of Aruba.
