When innovation strikes

Going online has never been as daunting a task as today, but the temptation of being able to find anything you want online usually pulls us all over the threshold and gets us going.
“What's the best way to cut apples?”, “Where's the safest place to go to, if aliens attack?”, “What's the answer to the ultimate question?”, okay, it's 42, but the answers can all be found on the Internet.
Our windows into the Internet are our browsers, they come in many flavors and colors and just like the Internet, the browsers have gone through massive changes since their beginnings.
One powerhouse of change has been the Opera browser. From introducing the tabs into their browser, and subsequently into the browser world, to minor additions like the mouse gestures, which have become a major part of comfort for many users, the Opera Developers have always been a reliable source for great ideas and innovations.
At this very moment, the developers at Opera are working on yet another new addition to their browser. Opera Unite will let any user who runs Opera host their own web-content without having to go through another service. Music streaming, photo sharing, file sharing or just chatting are all possible from within Opera Unite. It's all right on your PC and the best thing is, it's all free.
Whether Unite will become a success, or not, is not clear yet, but the idea itself borders on the revolutionary. The potential inherent in Unite is huge and I think that, given enough time, many people will come to appreciate it. Possibly even using it in ways that we can't imagine at the moment.
But, whatever the outcome may be, just having such ideas is an important part of innovation already.
