SYNOVIAL JOINT
Saturday, February 26, 2011 2:35:09 AM
Synovial joint or diartrosis are most evolved and therefore most mobile type of joint.
It is freely mobile joint , though at some of them the movement is restricted by the shape of the articulating surface and by the ligament which hold the bone together. The ligament are elastic connective tissue. A synovial joint has fluid filled cavity between articular surface which is coverd by articular cartilage.
The fluid known as synovial fluid , is a form of lymph produce by the synovial membrane which lines cavity except for the actual articular surface and covers any ligaments or tendons which pass through the joint, synovial fluid act as a lubricant.
The movement possible at the synovial joint –
Angular flexion :- decrees the angle between two bone.
Extension :- increasing the angle between two bone.
Abduction :- moving the part away from the mid line.
Adduction :- bringing the part towards the mid line.
Rotetary :- rotation, turning up on axis.
Circumduction :- moving the extremity of the part round in circul so that the whole part in scribe a cone.
Gliding one part slides on another.

Joint is a junction between two or more bone or cartilage.
A-Structural classification-
1-Fibrous joints:-
a:- Sutures b:- Syndesmosis and c:- Gomphosis
2- Cartilaginous joint:-
a:- Primary cartilaginous joint or synchondrosis and
b:- Secondry cartilaginous joint or symphysis
3- Synovial joint:-
a:- Ball and socket or spheroidal joints:- Movementful (flexion, abduction, adduction, circumduction and rotation) joint
b:- Seller or saddle joint:- flexion, abduction, adduction, and conjuct rotation
c:- Condylar and bicondylar joint:- flexion and limited rotation, extention
d:-Ellipsoid joint:- flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, circumduction
e:- Hinge Joints:- Flexion and extension
f:- Pivot trochoid joint:- Rotation only
g:- Plane joint:- Gliding movement
B:- Functional Classification(According to the degree of mobility)
1:- Synarthrosis:- (Immovable) like fibrous joint
2:- Amphiarthrosis:- (Slighuly movable) like cartilaginous joint
3:- Diarthrosis:- (Freely movable) like synovial joint
C:- Regional Classification:-
1:- Skull type:- immovable
2:- Vertebral type:- Slightly movable
3:- Limb type:- Freely type
