Thanks, Dave. I appreciate your support. In a universe of a million or more e-books on Amazon, it is currently 32,000 from the top of the paid best seller list (6/2011). heart

ok, where is your site that i can buy the book, and not the kindle?????

DavidRavo Thursday, June 9, 2011 12:22:34 PM

Hi Kim,
On the book's page (right sidebar) is a free download of Kindle for PC. Once you have this on your computer, you can download any Kindle book and read it. The screen format is the same as the Kindle. Lots of books on Amazon are FREE!! smile

Анонімний writes: When you are in the corner and have no cash to go out from that point, you will require to take the home loans. Just because that should aid you definitely. I take short term loan every year and feel good because of this.

Well, Anonymous, don't take out a loan just to buy my book! bigsmile

Anonymous apparently is trying to coax people into a loan scam??? Same thing is on my page...It is not , err, anything to do with the posts or threads..., as in auto reply or something.

As someone writing his own novel, I'm interested in how you submitted your book to so many places. Did you use Smashwords for everything or manually submit to some?

If you used Smashwords, how do you find the service? I've seen limited formatting choices in their books so I'm rather hesitant at the moment.

DavidRavo Sunday, October 23, 2011 1:25:50 PM

Hi Furie; thanks for the visit!

I used both Amazon (for the broad audience) and Smashwords for the wide number of formats they provide, and also to get distribution through Barnes & Noble. I opted out of Smashwords distribution to Amazon. I also used a free press release service that so far has not produced many results.

My analysis is that WORD-OF-MOUTH through social networking and good & numerous reviews on Amazon is what will get attention for your book. Writing one is easy; the hard part is getting professional reviewers to take a look & write a review, getting interviews in the media, etc. A handicap is that you can't do book signings at bookstores--a very important marketing tool.sherlock

My plan is a slow start via e-books and then reinvest money from that in a limited run of hard copies. From there you can get bookstores interested (using ebook sales figures to sell to them) and send a couple of free copies to newspapers and magazines, then running book signings and the like if anyone but me can stand reading it. wink

DavidRavo Monday, October 24, 2011 12:16:14 PM

That's a good plan; similar to mine when I got started. I hope it works out for you! Steven King got started by selling books out of the trunk of his car! smile

Ditto. I've got dozens of books on my list right now as we're moving to digital, but I'll add yours for later.

Hi Cynthia, I notice that you sent the same query to my Opera friend Fred Dart. He is a better choice as he is only 60 years old (much younger than me), and far more handsome! smile

david,
your book is good enough for hardcopy distribution. i read the first chapter at amazon.com and was really excited and interested. i call it a page turner. you obviously heeded advice i have heard, "write about what you know."

all i know about mazatlan is "el grande" where i and three friends enjoyed the jail's open air hospitality for two weeks. we were waiting for the fine money. as soon as we paid, we were released. and all we did was swim naked. happy

DavidRavo Wednesday, April 25, 2012 8:01:00 PM

Hi Scott; thanks for the visit and your kind words. Mazatlan is my favorite for billfishing, and I have gone out after big Marlin and Swordfish there on three occasions (it's far better fishing than I had at Cabo San Lucas or Hawaii). My book is based on my experiences, as you suggest. I never tried swimming naked however---You've got me there! bigsmile

scott cummingI_ArtMan Wednesday, April 25, 2012 9:57:03 PM

well, we were young and stupid not to realize that we were in a fundamentally catholic country. but that really does puzzle me still... we were half a mile from the road. and isn't the vatican itself people with nudes? oh, but that is art. still puzzling about why our bodies are not to be seen. happy

you might get a kick out of this adventure....

That was an el-grande tale, Scott; thanks for sharing! smile
