According to an article in Health Journal, scientists have linked changes in temperature, humidity or barometric pressure to worsening pain from rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, as well as headaches, tooth aches, jaw pain, scar pain, low-back pain, pelvic pain, fibromyalgia, trigeminal neuralgia (a searing pain in the face), gout and phantom-limb pain.
So, now there is a scientific basis for my whining, avoiding domestic chores, and demanding to be waited on hand and foot by my wife when the weather changes. I have long known of this phenomenon because I sport a number of healed broken bones, and Osteoarthritis in one knee and in my wrists which were shattered in a bad motorcycle accident about 30 years ago. In addition, sometimes the pressure changes will also trigger a migraine headache. Health Journal Article
The reason I am writing about this today is that my recovery workouts at the health club have ratcheted up a notch according to my plan. As of this week, I have extended my daily jaunt around the track to two miles (3.218 kilometers) non-stop. I am also starting the other planned routines (stretching, weight lifting machines, and juggling my two cats). Key to my recovery is using the super-hot whirlpool hot tub at the gym for about 20 minutes after I finish my workout. I am also gingerly starting the martial arts stretches I learned long ago, but gave up in a fit of laziness later in life. I really recommend this routine to any of my readers who are getting ‘over the hill’ like I am, or who have restricted mobility, COPD, and other conditions that can be improved with exercise.

I normally wouldn't offer a movie review in this blog; the reason being that I haven't been in a movie theater for many, many years. I've always had better things to do to entertain myself. That said, it was my brother's birthday last week, and he was in town--an unusual event (I think he is a million-mile frequent flyer). But, here he was and he wanted to go to the IMAX theater complex a few miles from my home for his birthday and then have a nice dinner together with the family members. The movie was 'Gravity' a new release in glorious 3D and theater surround sound, and he was excited to see it.
My brother had previously paid for everyone's ticket, although it was HIS birthday, and wouldn't let us pay anything! We went inside the theater, and the lobby was jammed with people lining up to go through a metal detector before taking our seats (a safety precaution against crazy criminals with guns). Above the entrance to the detector was a huge sign that declared, 'NO WEAPONS!'. As I am a concealed weapons permit holder I had to dash back to the parking lot and put my pistol, a few grenades, a piano wire garrote, Bowie knife, and so forth in the trunk of the car. I returned just before the movie started, got a pair of the 3D glasses from an attendant, and found my seat next to my brother.
The theater lights dimmed, and WHAM! a blast of sound at about 100 decibels erupted from dozens of giant loudspeakers embedded in the walls and ceiling that nearly ruptured my eardrums. The movie had started, and the opening shots were mind-blowing images of the Earth from low orbit and a space shuttle, space station, space walking astronauts, and a zillion miscellaneous things flying out of the screen toward the audience. I didn't care; I was stupefied by the intensity of the soundtrack which included a lot of mechanical sounds although airless space will not carry sound. Other than that, it was an excellent movie and I won't spoil it for you, but I DO advise bringing some earplugs if you go (I won't go to another in-theater movie).

I woke up this morning after a restful night and grabbing my laptop from the nightstand, logged on.
The first reeling blow came in the form of a news story that informed me that 14 members of the ‘Anonymous’ hacker group had been indicted for various crimes against the electronic body politic by, you guessed it; an anonymous Grand Jury.
I wondered if this unnerving development might make the giant wheel of Karma lurch a little today. To make matters worse, the U.S. government is still shut down and the world hasn’t come to an end yet. However, the vestiges of the government puppet masters are working hard (and still getting paychecks) to make the shutdown as painful as possible on the rest of us. Here are a few examples of the petty ‘revenge killing’ and torture I’m referring to:
According to a story in Yahoo News, “Millions of visitors tour the Canyonlands region of Utah and Arizona each year for what can be once-in-a-lifetime vacations. Those visitors didn't stop with the government shutdown, which forced officials to close down roads, campgrounds and tourist centers at national parks dotting the landscape.
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has offered to use state money to keep the Grand Canyon open, and several businesses made similar pledges — all of which have been politely rejected by the national park…….Rafting outfitters, fishing guides, Jeep companies, hotels and restaurants are hurting without the 715,000 people who spend about $76 million a day visiting the national park system.”
And, then there is this report from the Associated Press: “….Under normal circumstances, investors would have the closely watched jobs report to parse through. But the shutdown has forced the Labor Department to postpone the release of September's data for at least the foreseeable future.” The report was due out today and likely already published for distribution.
POW! TAKE THAT, WALL STREET! WHAM! SAME FOR YOU, RETIREES!
Here is some more of the same: Turning on us like wild beasts
All, because of the ego-maddened pretenders to ‘Good government’ and ‘fair dealings’ that we elected to lead us. These folks, who crafted their own special healthcare program, don’t have to worry about the impact of the new healthcare law on their families. In the meantime, small businesses are laying off workers or reducing full-time employment in order to avoid increased operating costs due to insurance coverage of employees.
Let us be clear: Both political parties, including the ‘Tea Party’ constituents in Congress and the Executive Branch, are equally guilty in bringing our government to the brink of collapse. But, neither is willing to give an inch, and the fight has become personal vendettas and retribution, and damn the consequences for the rest of us. I really hope people sit up and take notice of what is happening and the great danger to our republic that it represents. You must get off of your butts next election and go VOTE. Don’t enable the slimeballs that buss illiterate welfare recipients and Illegals to the polls. Pay attention to who is impeding solutions and who is trying to implement them. Remember the promises unkempt or broken by those folks on the ballot next go-around.

Here is a formal paper just out about the discovery of a possible cure for ALS brain disease, found by my brother and his research team at the Institute for Ethnomedicine:
More than ever, they need additional funding to support clinical trials, and you can help by making a tax-deductible donation to: Institute for Ethnomedicine
