News Flash: Yellowstone trail closed due to new hot spots

According to the Associated Press, “YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. » A popular trail in Yellowstone National Park has been closed because of new geothermal hot spots that could endanger hikers. Park officials said Wednesday that geologists will use thermal imaging, temperature readings and a ground survey to examine hot spots on the Clear Lake Trail."

I made a blog post recently that touched upon the subject of new and unusual thermal activity in the Yellowstone caldera. If this super volcano erupts, it could get very interesting here in the USA. I am driving up there tomorrow to go fishing with my brother and one of his research Post-Docs on Yellowstone Lake, which is full of giant Mackinaw trout. Hopefully, they won’t be parboiled when I reel them into the boat.

I didn’t plan on hiking over the Clear Lake trail, but I do plan on doing some flyfishing on the Firehole River. Just in case though, I’ll take my camera and asbestos fishing waders, and post a few photos here, if and when I return on Sunday.

Have a great time, David. And if the fish are cooked, it'll just save you a little time and trouble, won't it?

Hi Carol, Meow in Spanish is "Yowza!". :D
Hi Erwin, thanks for the visit!
Hi Stardancer, It will indeed--I'll just scarf them down on the boat!

What fiendish contraption did you secretly build in the basement of The Yellowstone Motel all those years ago ... ?!

Hi David,
It was a boiler room worthy of the Queen Mary, and an underground steam distribution system with a secret tunnel to the Yellowstone bordello! :D

Yellowstone Park is one place i would dearly love to visit in America.

Hi Glenice,
Yellowstone is one of the last pieces of untouched wilderness in the USA. It is the same as when the white men first entered the 'Old West'. It is beautiful, indeed!

the hotter it gets, the more dangerous it gets.

A few minor rumbles - New Moon. I did the 50th anniv of the Hebgen Lake disaster this week, you might want to read up - only a fisherman realised the quake was coming and got the hell out. There will be a big quake by morning, but over near Japan.
