The A/C Problem on My Car!
Thursday, January 13, 2011 9:37:55 PM
Hi, I want to explain the A/C problem in my car! I have a 2004 Subaru Impreza TS 2.5.
This is what happened:
1. Hose assembly-pressure dischage line is missing.
2. A/C belt missing.
3. The compressor might be locked.
Okay, let's see some actual pictures:

This is what it looks like under my hood.
The blue box is problem 1, and the red box is problem 2.

This is the zoom in of the problem 1. You can see the hose assembly-pressure dischage line that is supposed to connect to the radiator is gone.

This is a more clear view to the missing line.

And clearly it should be connected to this mount.

This is where the missing line should connect to the A/C compressor.

The port is hidden on the back of the compressor. From here you should be able to see the port!

Now let's see the problem 2. The missing belt.

I guess it's pretty clear that the belt is missing!

Also the pulley looks bad. I think it needs to be replaced too!

Let's take a closer look!
Okay. Now let's be frank.
Honestly, I can fix this car myself, if I am willing to find parts myself and spend hours on it, plus, I do like to have someone who has done this before to work on it so I won't mess things up. I am a poor student in college. I do not have more than $300 right now on this car.
You might say the parts probably will be more than $300. Well, if I get them brand new OEM it will but this is my research - those are not the lowest price, but the lowest price from legit online dealers (price including shipping):
1. Belt: $11 (New, factory)
2. Pulley: $29 (New, OEM)
3. Line: $60 (Used, OEM)
4. (This is only maybe) A/C Compressor: $90 (Used)
The whole thing is $190. I knew many of mechanist gets more than $50 an hour, but I am only willing to pay you $35 an hour. All the works together is not going to take more than three hours (even a person like me who does not do works on car all the time).
