(Some) HTML5 already works in Opera9 (Merlin)

Besides video delivered in an experimental Opera build some more HTML5 elements are already supported in Opera9 Merlin: There is support for Canvas and Web Forms 2.0 which were added with Opera 9.0 Technology Preview 1 and audio. Since that time this seems to go pretty unnoticed in public. My attention was raised by a presentation of Anne van Kesteren for reboot 9.0 about HTML5.

This article doesn't provide deep research nor many details. I provide a whole bunch of links towards this topic. And you may find the examples for Web Forms 2.0 as impressive as I did.

What for?

What is it useful for if no other browser supports the same? FataL delivers one possible answer: for Opera Widgets!

Some widgets are already using HTML5 elements like INPUT-Number. Dev.Opera also have a article on this :

Hi AyushJ, thanks for your comment. I have this link already in my post - sadly neither this page nor the Widget documentation on dev.opera.com mentions that one could (and should) use the new technologies like Canvas and Web forms 2.0. Maybe it's because the support of HTML5 in Opera is still considered to be experimental. Opera's implementation of HTML5 seemed to be just something to play with and become relevant in not so near future at most. It was enlightening for me to read FataL's useful tips for widgets makers as Widgets are a really wonderful place to use HTML5.
It is nice to see that some (few) widgets already use this methods.
