While elsewhere people will be thinking of
questions to ask me, I'll be off to the hospital in a few hours. I hope to be back soon, with a new left hip. The first part of me to become
bionic, a lot cheaper though... Kids, watch out for iced sidewalks - a fall on the curb can lead to a broken hip; a broken hip can lead to a dead hip; which is no fun.
For fun, here's a screenhot of my current Opera toolbar configuration:

blog, life
Nice article in New York magazine:
Kids, the Internet, and the End of Privacy: The New Generation Gap (via
Schneier). Ultra short synopsis of what changes differentiate this generation :
- They think of themselves as having an audience
- They have archived their adolescence
- Their skin is thicker than yours
Suprisingly, I wasn't surprised. Or shocked or worried. But I'll admit this put-everything-online lifestyle is not for me, I can't be bothered. I don't connect much with people from the described generation anymore since I quit being a Boy Scouts leader, so I can't tell if it is the same over here in The Netherlands. Probably it is, given the high penetration of high-bandwidth connections.

life
I was wondering when it would be
my turn - not that I'm really enthousiastic about such games.
Like Eric Meyer, I will not tag others

- I've got a bad relationship with the Renault 19 - I lost one because it was stolen (in Prague) and the one before that because I rolled off sideways from a dike*. Getting in a spin on top of a small dike is not a good idea.
- I might get a replacement for my left hip this year
- I've been a Boy Scout troop leader for about 10 years
- I haven't really played computer games since the Atari 2600 became defunct
- I'm really bad at finding interesting things about myself - or at finding things about myself interesting
* Living in the Netherlands after all...

life, me
Tomorrow (oops, I mean in a few hours) we'll drive south for a while, to see if hot weather in France is more pleasurable than hot weather in the Netherlands. I've no idea of the level of connectedness of the camping we'll be staying
at, so maybe there will be a photo album added soon, and maybe not

Anyway, I'll be mostly offline for at least two weeks!

blog, life, opera
I really should blog at least once a month. So, here's a blog post...
Not much new to tell though. In private live, Jens is doing well. Smiling, laughing (quite like Sara Ellen), and still a lot of sleeping of course. Crying also, quite loud sometimes, if he thinks we need some encouragement in preparing his milk

Opera work is continuing as well of course. Testing Merlin builds, keeping track of user feedback, Dutch localization for some mobile Opera's... I also keep some of my custom setups updated, so they work with Opera 9 and no new features will be missing: Hugin, MoreMail, Twelve, Rijk's, OperaFox aka Munin, OperaExplorer, Seven-Five, Eight, BiggerMenu, Kiss.
I've tweaked the links in the blog sidebar a bit. It's a pity I can't reorder the sections, unfortunately.

life, jens, happiness, me

This morning we could take Jens home, after the hospital had taken care for him for three weeks. Now he's all ours

Dutch readers will know this is a great day for such a gift!

life, me, mobile
Today we finally got some serious sun here!
Great, considering the fact I'm still in The Netherlands.
With my SE P900 and Opera, I can stay informed of all the interesting news - and weather forecasts. Have fun with 8.02!

acid2, life
It's rather late in the evening, you are chatting on an internal IRC channel. Suddenly your boss chimes in with a frightening "OMG, what happened with
Acid 2?" People go looking, and discover major regressions in the latest build! And that just after we had made such
progress! Red background again, no more green eyes...
The cooler minds notice this is also showing in yesterday's build. And in Firefox the face also got a red background, which it never had in that browser... A look at the source code learns that the DATA-URLs have been replaced by simple relative URLs. Pointing to files that don't exist on the webstandards.org server. Phewwww, that's a relief. Now, after a good night sleep, the smiley has been restored to it's former glory.

me, life
No, it's not contagious. But I'm in the
same situation as Tim Altman. A difference between us is that I've got some
experience already. But it's 6 years ago now, it will be interesting to see what will be different and what will be the same.

me, life
I work from home, testing various Opera desktop versions, writing a little documentation and communicating with the user community. Recently, my boss agreed it was time for a new PC. So apart from simulating Opera use on a mediocre 3 year old system, I now get to test Opera on a decent modern machine

Specs: Athlon XP 3000, 160 GB HD, 1GB RAM, WinXP (and soon various other OSes using VMWare).
Don't worry, the old machine will not be thrown out, I will also run Opera on Windows 98se regularly.
