Merlin: shortcuts and buttons for all settings

, , ,

In Merlin, you can use opera:config to directly change all available settings. But it is still a chore if you want to do this regularly, for example to toggle User JavaScript on and off. So Merlin also introduces an action for shortcuts and buttons, that makes a direct change in your settings. This means you don't have to wait for Opera's developers to add specific actions.
Moose gives a nice example of this new feature in Opera 9 (Merlin):
Set preference, "User Prefs|User JavaScript=1" | Set preference, "User Prefs|User JavaScript=0"

  • Action name: Set Preference
  • First parameter: "Section|Prefs parameter" (as they appear in opera6.ini)
  • Second parameter: not used

This can be used in custom keyboard shortcuts, mouse gestures, voice commands, buttons, and in custom menu setups.

Note: this is a new action that has not been thoroughly tested yet (apart from the one example here smile ). So your feedback is welcome

T stands for TabGoogle & Firefox think Opera got it right after all :)

Where I can get list of all commands, supported by Opera? I use own source viewer, but want add button for use internal source viewer sometimes. Is it possible?

Sailormax, there is no official list, but you can find it all in the UI. The shortcuts editor uses auto-completion. And with the new 'Set Preference', you can do more than ever. For example, this action:

Set preference, "User Prefs|Source Viewer=Opera" | Set preference, "User Prefs|Source Viewer=notepad"

... does what you want: toggling between 'opera' and 'notepad' as source viewer.

I expected something like "View document source, Opera", without change preference smile But, thanks smile

Through the last several releases of Opera, I've been looking for a way to send the front page (or tab) to the back (bottom). Earlier versions of Opera used Ctrl F6, but now it only brings the next tab to the front (top).

Any ideas?

Still love Opera, btw.

Not quite sure what you want - but you can try the different Ctrl+Tab cycle settings in the prefs?

"...you can try the different Ctrl+Tab cycle settings in the prefs?"

Ctrl+f6 used to have the same effect that Ctrl+Alt+Shift+N (open copy of active in back), followed by Ctrl+F4 (close active) has today; It moved the active page (or tab) from the front to the back. Great way to get the transfers page, that news article I want to get back to, ifilm.com, and photographytips.com out of my way while I look something up for my boss or my nieces. Everything is still there; and if something unimportant finds or forces its way to the front, I can send it to the back and forget about it until later.

The Windows equivalent is Alt+Esc, which moves the active Windows application behind all of the other running Windows applications.

I love Ctrl+Tab, Ctrl+Shift+Tab, but there's no indication of an Edit Keyboard setup 'phrase' to Send active page to the back. If I could even reduce the page to the back it would help, but reducing the page now only moves it back one position so I still have to Ctrl+Tab past it to reach other windows.

Just an ongoing frustration. I still love opera, and most of my friends never have 47 tabs open like I do right now, so I'll keep working on converting them.

And I'm most impressed to get such a quick reply on a weekend.

Thanks for the best browser yet;
looking forward to playing with o90p1;
