My Hawk identification is lacking. Quite simply they all look the same to me! So this one, is a Hawk!

Dilemma

Hawk, B.C., Sumas Prairie

Here I am on the horns of a dilemma again. For some reason I have a problem IDing Hawks and other Raptors.
I think this one is a Red-tailed Hawk. It had a buddy sitting on a post across the road from where it was sitting! So I think they were probably a pair!

A Northern Harrier sit on an old Birch trunk.

Early this morning it was sunny, but we're back to gloom again. More rain on the way.
But what the hey, it's Friday.

On the Hunt

Northern Harrier, Reifel, Hawk

A Northern Harriers was flying over the marsh. Hunting for whatever came it's way. It didn't seem to be successful while I watched.

Another clear and sunny day today, albeit cold with a rather bitter wind. Regardless is't so nice to see the sun!

Sharp-shinned Hawk

Hawk, backyard, Sharp-shinned

Here's a Sharp-shinned Hawk. It's our resident predator. It stops by our backyard occasionally, to terrorize all our little birds. But they have to make a living too!

It's a bit of a gloomy day around here. The quiet before the storm I think. It's forecast that we should get snow later today and it's anticipated we could get up to 30cm before it turns to rain later tomorrow.

Hunting

Downs Rd, Hawk, Red-tailed

While out and about the other day, we spotted this Red-tailed Hawk. It was hunting in a field and had just risen from the ground, to land on this fence post.

I was quite a distance away and these are the best of my shots.

Even being a couple of hundred yards away, as soon as I raised the camera, I had about 2 seconds before it was off! This seems to be happening a lot these day. Everyone seems to be extra cautious.
It had something in it's talons, but I couldn't tell what. Probably a mouse or some other small rodent.

Hawk, Sharp-shinned

The Sharp-shinned Hawk was back again yesterday. Seems to be making us part of it's hunting routine. I'm not sure if it's actually caught anything here. All the little birds make themselves pretty scarce when it's around.

Drying Out

After all the rain we have had, today, we finally got a splash of sunshine. It was sort of hit and miss until early afternoon, but I'm sure it was sun.
Even the local Sharp-shinned Hawk was enjoying the warmth. Spreading out it's feathers to dry out.
