Life through my lens

Sharpy Drops By

,

The Sharp-shinned Hawk was back again yesterday. Seems to be making us part of it's hunting routine. I'm not sure if it's actually caught anything here. All the little birds make themselves pretty scarce when it's around.

Maybe it snitches feed when you aren't looking. Do you have suet out?

Yeah, but this little guy eats birds. So it comes in and sits in a tree close to where the birdies hang out at the feeder and waits it's chance. I've seen it chasing a few birds but haven't seen it catch any yet. I suppose it must catch something or it wouldn't keep coming back.

Nice - wouldn't mind one of those in my garden smile

Well, I knew it was a meat eater, but even carnivores like a change of diet occasionally for a treat. bigsmile

Beautiful birds! We have so many of the red shouldered hawks, one comes every morning about 8am screaming overhead. It's great that they make so much noise as it does warn the small birds.

Anonymous writes: gorgeous photo, but this little guy is not a merlin, he looks like a sharp shin hawk, you can tell by the red eyes. The above on is a merlin.

I stand corrected. Thank you!
