Opera 11.60 contains big changes to the Opera's mail client. You'll need to play with it for a while to adjust. I known that 'change' is a scary word for many people, but I think that you will like the mail client once you tweak it to your personal taste. It is designed to work nicely on big and/or wide screens. What you'll see:
one of the nice new layout featured is the quite roomy message control panel that will pop up at a click of the wrench on the top right side of the mail tab. You will be able to quickly customize you mail display from here. You will be able to sort your mail by date, label, status, size and subject by making a selection on the topmost drop-down menu.
The next drop-down menu of interest is grouping. This is a new option that will allow additional sorting by date, read status,a new feature pinned status and no grouping. By selecting grouping by date, Labeled separator bars for the days , weeks, months and years will appear in the mail list. You may also set threading, fit to width and show quick reply.
This is what you will see when you click on the setting wrench:
Another Item of interest that I found was the option to override your default settings and customize your settings for individual labels according to your needs. You will find new Icon that looks a little like a rss feed icon at the top of the message list panel . If you check the override check box you can the adjust sorting for that label.
the setting panel looks like this :
The thread control panel is Opened by clicking on the icon next to the label sorting override icon . it look a bit like a page with writing on it. Note: be activating thread all messages will be hidden except for the current message are corresponding threads.you can toggle back to all messages view by clicking on the mail folder for that group of messages.
the thread control panel looks like this :
The one other change that you will notice is a extra label for pinned in your all messages area. I believe that once you settle into the new mail layout you will like it as much as I do for quick location and easy access.
One thing that you might want to do is back up your profile before upgrading . The new mail format isn't reverse compatible. Once you have updated there is no turning back. Unless you have a mail backup of 11.52 , 11.52 does not display 1060 mail format. You would have to put 11.52 mail back in to see your mail in 11.52 This notice is for those that just can't handle change. the mail system is stable and ready to go.
below is a link to a Opera backup tool that is alway good to have around for these occasions
Disco Stu's Opera import & export tool
If you are scared of Change, backup first
There are a few major internal changes in 11.60 that are going to improve stability , speed and turbo
a new HTML5 parser (Ragnarök) has been updated with various bug fixes. They have added a speculative tokenization step to load external resources while waiting for scripts. These changes should improve performance, particularly when using Turbo.
This is about all the changes you can expect until the holiday season. As you know, Opera has always be big on Xmas. This year may be Really big. I may post on this blog later about that. For now you can't unwrap you presents until Xmas.
I haven't had much to report on the Progress of Opera 12 for the Last few months. As you know Norway had been dealing with some traumatic issues this summer. These events occurred in Oslo Norway the Home of Opera's Corporate headquarters.
This tragic event is One that we hope will never repeat itself ever again in Norway. One of the staff members of Opera ,our own harrvard was supplying one of the few live feeds of News of the events as they unfolded that horrific day.
As you would expect the events were quite disruptive to all businesses in Norway. The Opera community the world over shared their grief and sorrow.
With the Famous Nordic courage, The Opera staff returned to there jobs determined to show the world that they could not be defeated. Work has resumed on Opera 12 at a blinding pace. Opera wahoo 12 is preparing to leave it's per-alpha mode and move into Beta.
Many of the improvements that the user will notice but not see will be Implement full support for new ECMAScript 5 features For us technologicly challenged types it means more speed
on the top end the first thing that you will notice is a little star in you address field.
This is the New and much faster way to add or remove sites from your speed dial or bookmarks. It has a simple dropdown menu to select from this will change adding a speed dial button or book mark into a one click operation .The new feature will remind you that you have previously place a site in speed dial or bookmarks and the menu will change to a remove mode . the star will be yellow if there is a existing marker.as you can see in the image below. I really think that you will grow rather fond of this new improvement to Opera. The star is just part of the many subtle but powerful changes and improvements coming to Opera 12. you will now be able to add a bookmark or Speed Dial Button at the click of a mouse
You will soon discover a few more improvements as you explore Opera 12. One is in the mail system. The way you delete messages has changed just a bit. This will make it a great deal more convenient and simpler managing messages. When you delete a e-mail that you have received it is no longer removed from the view. A trash can favorcon will replaced the open envelope. You message in now marked for deletion . if you change you mind a wish to UN-delete the e-mail you can do that from the same area.A message will only be completely removed from view and the folder by emptying the trash bin.
There has been a great deal of fixes and core changes in opera that you have been waiting for and will love. In fact even though Opera 12 is still "Pre-Alpha" ,you will be hard put to find the few bugs that are still being worked out. Opera Developers are putting a great deal of heart and hard work into Opera 12.
OperaUnite is now in perfect operating order. there is no longer the nagging 404 page not found for the Unite Home Admin page. however you will have to reinstall your unite applications after you first Install opera 12.
Voice is working as ever in 12. I discovered that if I opened a page in a background tab voice will work the first time in most cases. If I Open the page on top I will have to reload the page to get speak to work.
Another new feature that has been added is using the keyboard space bar to scroll down the page which is very convenient when reviewing long pages
Just a little hint about what it might feel like it hop into the driver seat of Opera 12. some Lab test have shown that a certain Browser named after south African tours at a whopping 100 times slower that opera. And a certain Shiny browser 30 times slower and Opera don't even have Hardware Acceleration yet
that is all that I have to report to you right now . Now that the production pace has picked up you should be seeing quite a few more entries between Now And the Christmas Holidays. We All know that Opera loves to play Santa and leave big gifts under the tree
Yesterday, July 7th, Opera Software posted Opera 12 Code named wahoo. The
This fish has made a good first impression on this writer. It is both fast and responsive. That Opera product Hallmark that was the original reason this author chose Opera as his default browser long ago. At first glance you won't see much of a change from the recently released Opera 11.50 swordfish. From what was posted in the developer blog this copy is just a shakedown cruise with further stability fixes and polish before they start adding the really good stuff.
However there were some important fixes with this release. the main fix being in the mail client. Which is now completely fixed the trash bin is work as it should. Other Changes/improvement came to the label filtering system.filtering rules now work. Updating widgets from the main menu works . The vanishing Speed Dial issue is gone Also they Aligned scrolling for document and scrollbar and to other browsers.
There were also a number of fixes for Mac and Linux/FreeBSD Mac user will be happy to know that they can now use Dragonfly again without a crash. For Linux/FreeBSD Users the Opera doesn't respect opera:config#UserPrefs|PageBarOpenURLOnMiddleClick setting issue is fixed . Their are quite a few nice fixes for all system in this release but I only touched on a few of the Highlights.
You will notice a marked jump in rendering Speed. Moving from section to section is almost instant Video streaming is almost up to broadcast standards ( anybody up for free Internet HD television almost ? )
I can't wait to see what the developers mean by this statement "wahoo only includes some important bug fixes and overall polishing, with all the fresh and juicy stuff coming a bit later!!!" For now we can only wait to see if some developer slips up and leaks some juicy stuff to Opera wikileaks. When and if the do, I will be sure to post a update here.
Until then cheers!!
Now here is a brief list of the changes and improvments made to the Interface.
- Brand new toolbar icon set
- Brighter, softer colors for backgrounds and borders
- Padding and alignment improvements
- Updated status bar design and content
- No more button borders in the address bar
- The Home and Fast Forward buttons now optional
- New "tab fold" attention state - no more blue blob
- New window gradient for OS X
As you Can see , Opera is Stripping down to Fighting weight for the world Title Browser bout. I Hate To say it, but Opera is beginning to resemble a certain other competitor who we won't mention here, who's name starts with a "c" ( Here is where I am suppose to insert the disclaimer stating that any similarities between Opera Featherweight and "other" Browsers, both living and dead is purely coincidental )
Throw in the Changes and improvements that has be made to Speed Dial(Inserting buttons), Presto 2.9.168 for improved CSS parsing speed, and Mail improvements .And I can say with confidence that Opera Users are going to be in for a Pleasing and Impressive mid Summer experience when 11.50 Goes Public.
The Opera Development team have returned back to work after a well deserved spring break after Releasing Opera 11.10 just a few weeks ago.The first thing that they did upon returning was to launch a entirely new testing version of Opera called Opera Next.In a entirely new testing strategy opera Opened up it's shapshots to both web developers and designer for testing along with the usual routy crew of beta testers.
To Achieve this OperaNext is designed to run in parallel with your working copy of Opera. Upon install Opera next will create it's Own Directory in program files called Opera Next.It will place a OperaNext directory in your user Application Data and local setting areas and add it's own registry entry. All this will happen unless you change the Options to portable install at the time of install. Opera next will not install as your default browser unless you specify so In the options.
The reason the Developers chose this route was to begin auto updating in the testing version of OperaNext without disturbing your stable working copy of Opera. This will assist them in accelerating the Developmental process. OperaNext comes complete with it's Own Silver Opera "O" icon for quick visual recondition of the testing copy and the working copy on the same system.
Opera next also has a blue and silver main menu icon.
If you are planing to try OperaNext, I would suggest that you read ALL the Information on settings on the desktop team blog before proceeding. There has been some important changes to Opera config setting just for OperaNext that will assist tester and web developers in choosing which updates will be downloaded. They have a really detailed chart that I am sure that they worked really hard on right HERE That explains it all
With The Posting of Opera 11.50 , now code named Swordfish, Opera is preparing to take the entire browser bundle to a entirely new lever. Opera 11.50 -12 releases promise to be one of the most innovative and exciting Editions of Opera that has come out in years. New technology is being enabled and tested as it becomes available.
One of those exciting new features that is being taken to the next level as you read this is Speed Dial.
11.50 will be introducing a entirely new feature "Speed Dial Extensions " which I have dubbed Active Speed Dial.
As we all know the old Speed Dial buttons were nothing more that a Photographic link to your favorite web sites. Active Speed Dial promises to be a bit more stimulating. With Speed Dial Extensions you will be able to review incoming data at a glance such as news feed ,the weather conditions for your area, possibly stock quotes from the markets.who knows what other uses that the developers will dream up before the final release.
there Is now a speed dial extension developer contest with a grand prize of $1000 usd ) If your not a geek there is also a contest for the best Speed Dial Extension Idea !!! with prizes
Get Speed Dial Extension contest info here
Hardware Acceleration is not included in the OperaNext version of 11.50 because it is not ready yet.(one must wait on all good things)However it was stated that it will be included in later updates of operanext.
Opera link has seen some improvements with password synchronization. You can enable it when you set up link for the first time or in the Synchronization Options dialog.
There are quite a few addions to the HTML5 supported list with swordfish such as a color picker api , calendar I think and a few other things that I will blog about later.
you might want to note that they have begun repairing a few Apps in OperaUnite. The web cam app is now fixed and can be used.
well that is all that I have for now folks
It Has Been A while since I have updated you on the Progress Of Opera 11.10 code named "Barracuda". The Developmental Team was hard at work all weekend, with two rare weekend updates. One of which was posted on a Sunday . today Opera released Opera 11.10 Release Candidate 4 for final test before a Public Release scheduled for tomorrow unless any release blocking bugs are detected.
I Think That you will be Proud of the work that your Team has put into Opera 11.10. Opera Barracuda as the name implies is capable of quick burst of speed when need and also long silent runs when it needs to reach it's prey. Opera 11.10 is both stable and Fast.
The First of The Changes that you will notice after you install will be A Item that I spoke of in My Last Post Speed Dial. Speed Dial has been Completely Remodeled and improved. When you First Load Speed Dial, You May Panic thinking that you are having major Problems with the Install because you Old Speed Dial Configuration may not look quite right in the New Speed Dial. Not to worry Correcting it easy.
Open up the all new Speed Dial Configuration and get to work customizing Speed Dial to your Own Personal Taste. As you see you can now set the number of columns that you have or let Opera do it for you . and while you are there you can pick a background image for SD and set the zoom level. [a little note here: Opera will refresh the button image when you reset the zoom . That is normal]
You may Have noticed that you have a few new buttons added that you didn't have before. This may have been a result of a few plugs for new myopera community portals, fast mail and other stuff. As alway it is a simple task to right click and change
Here you might want to note that if you uncheck the Hide [+] in SD config you will find a "HUGE PLUS BUTTON" at the end of your buttons . that is how you now add buttons to Speed Dial .
when you are done adding buttons , Check Hide again and the "HUGE PLUS BUTTON " will vanish .
[Note: Some Older Opera Skins May NOT be compatible with Opera 11.10 It may be time to go shopping for a newer Skin..]
Another little Item that I found which may or may not be new is in the right click image menu . "Use image for Speed Dial Background ".
For The Web Designers
You will find that Opera is now supporting a whole range of Hot new HTML5 and CSS3 features such as linear gradient
Also their is now support for another kewl CSS3 standard, multi-columns which will save you a world of work. with this you set your style then just type in one div and the columns will fill like word wrap. the three columns here are all type in one div.
The last thing that I would like to mention is the addtion of support for the new webp image format
This is a new open source image format that will some day replace the jpg standard. From what I can tell of webp the advantages to it is you can pack it down about 28 or so smaller that a jpg with about the same image quality . This will be a big help to break the Internet log jam . and it could speed the loading of pages on your site.
Lol, Even as I type, Opera Developers have posted yet another RC4.1 update ( I think that they need to cut off the Coffee) As always there has been a huge number of fixes and core changes to Opera 11.10 I think that you will enjoy the fruits of all there hard work as I do..
Opera Barracuda Rocks!!
It has been Quit some time since We have peered into the Opera Crystal Ball to sneak a peek into Opera's
So Come with me now and look deep into the myst of time as we uncover the secrets of Opera's future. As you recall from my last post Opera has just released the New super fast Barracuda alpha. That had such a improvement that I thought that they were experimenting with Hardware Acceleration. I was immediately contacted by one of the Developers and told that they were NOT working on HA and It might be quite a while before they start on that. I corrected the entry in this blog about that...
Since then Opera Has however implemented a great number of improvements and fixes that you will so be enjoying with the public release of Opera 11.10. The first Apparent change that you will notice and love will be the NEW Scrollable Speed Dial!!!
That's right now you will be able to add as many Speed Dial Buttons as you wish and configure the lay out to Three four or five columns and one other setting "Automatic" ? I have no Idea what that last setting does but you can bet it is good
Another very classy feature that is being worked on as we speak is Drag and Drop Animation. you will be able to arrange your Speed Dial buttons as you wish!!
One last little item for US senior Opera users, will be zooming and a pop-up titles . So if you have a hard time reading your Speed Dial Buttons like me, help is on the way
As always Stability is now the key word in testing. The Devlopment team has now got the message that Opera users really don't like crashes. any Crash report gets top priority for debugging and I must say the are doing a really great job the last list of core fixes was almost two pages long They have repaired bugs dating back years.
Their Hard work to give you the Opera User ( The most discriminating browser users in the world ) the best product in the world has begun to pay off. Opera has moved to second most used browser visting the prestigious
Peacekeeper.com browser testing site
Opera is now running a close second place just under Chrome but above fireFox, safari and IE for the fist time I can remember. There were over a million Downloads from Egypt in one day for some reason ??
As usual there have been some minor changes to mail. and this strange new feature called Discover features lol whatever that is
Opera ICR fans will be pleased to note that your status will now be displayed over you avantar to other chaters . this means when you set your status to away, a small red dot with a minus sign will appeat over your avantar.
Well that is all that I have to report for the time being the cyrstal ball has gone dark
But Wait The Ball ia humming with mystical Power again!!!!
Ladies and Gentlemen I present to you the First public
Sneak preview of Opera 11.50
With Hardware Acceleration and OpenGL support!!Whoot
I can tell you right now that this is going to be awesomeness with a capitol A. If you have been thinking about getting a new Graphics card now would be a good time to save your money up. If you have a gaming computer it will proablly work
You will Need a graphics card that supports at least openGL 2.1 and supports frame buffering? for a Nivida user that would mean GEforce 8000 up . I can't tell you about the rest of the cards , but when you try it much later this year... If the About Opera page says vagas backend OpenGL it is working. if it says software then maybe it's new card time.
Right now in testing This Lab copy of Opera is Pulling a whopping 90 fps in the motzilla fish tank test with 1000 fishies ( in testing it far surpasses Chrome ) and that is with a average card. there is no telling what it will do with a high tech gaming card !!!
but now the crystal ball is fadeing again I can barely see somthing about sock proxy fix what ever that means....
Until next time Fans
P.S. How Do you like the "New Opera Droid "image beats the heck out of the humming bird hu ?? leave a comment on it..
Opera makes it's Move the latest Opera Alpha Released for testing on the 17th of Feb Code named "Barracuda"
Hello Opera fans ,
As you can see Opera seems to be taking a more aggressive stance in ther battle for market shares of the Internet. I like the marketing approach. It is well time that Opera shed the meek little browser from Up North.
After test driving the new Alpha that looks on the surface no different than Opera 11.01 and seeing no readily apparent changes I began to wonder if Barracuda was all marketing talk? I seemed to have many more bugs that 11.01 had.
It was not until I put my foot on the gas pedal that I began to see why they had called it "Barracuda"
A much different image came to mind for Marketing

This Barracuda Is really much Faster while conserving gas !! It was so much better that I had Thought that they had Enabled HA ..
It Takes Opera video delivery speed to a entirely new level . imagine watching a online video and having it look almost like cable tv whoot !!
I had to try it one some HTML5 webm vp8 vids that I had on my Unite site and was impressed with the performance of the "Barracuda" check the stats of task manager while a vid is running in opera below.
that's right seeing is believing
Opera "barracuda" is pulling 27% off my single core 1.8 gig cpu and only 543 mb page file with five tabs open.
The new Alpha has a long way to go before it is ready for the public. The Speed And Performance improvements had quit a few unexpected side effects but from what I have seen this is going to be all good. The Development team is already hard at work debugging. I don't recommend that you run right out and download barracuda just yet besides there was this statement
"Barracuda" is also the code name of the upcoming 11.10 version of the Opera browser. This is the first of a series of Opera versions where each one will have an associated code name.
the best is yet to come ... the Truth is out there
For the first time ever Opera has passed both the Internet Exploder and FireFox on the list at the prestigious Peacekeeper Browser Speed testing Site !!!!!Opera is Now Running head to head with chrome. Opera is Now second on the listing good job gentlemen.....
This Screen shot says it all
He was Using the name Unite for his site My bad , but it was a nice dream hehe.
Opera Welcomes Third Party extension to the Opera Family, the "Web of Trust Extension" for improved security surfing the web
Well fans we have started out the new year with a great new Release of Opera 11 and a world of new extensions to play with. Which brings me to the Point of this Post, extensions. To date there are 302 new extensions available for installation. They cover a tremendous range of new features and functionality for Opera that we never had before. This is why I have decided to start reviewing extensions an well a breaking Opera news. I plan to muddle thought the different new or Outstanding extensions one at a time and review the hot items as they become available for download.
One trend that I see that is very good for Opera is the fact that many third party developers have begun to take notice of Opera. Many have developed extensions for Opera such as "LastPass","Readit" just to name a few. One such third party extension that caught my attention recently was the new "Web of Trust", better know as "WOT", extension for improved web security.
Did you ever wish that you had know what type of site you were getting ready to enter? Were you going to find yourself buried in spam after visiting a site. wish that you had never gone there? or have you spent hours researching a online merchant trying find out if it was safe to make a purchase? Do you wounder what you kids are looking at when your not home? If your answer is yes to any of these questions, then "WOT" is going to be a must have extension for you!!!
Web of Trust is a safe browsing tool, which warns you about risky sites that cheat customers, deliver malware or send spam.
Web Of Trust can be found with this link
Web of Trust is a Peer driven web site rating extension that has been available in most other modern browsers for a while and is now available for Opera 11. This extensions is powerful additional personal protection tool for you Opera web browsing experience. WOT has quite a few Security tools accessible with the click of the mouse. Among these are search security rating Icons placed in your search results so you can know where you are going at a glance. There too a pop-up rating chart when you hover over the icon.there is also warning screens that are set to your personal preferences.if you go to a web site and want to check there rating or rate the site yourself just click on the extension Icon button. There is so much more to tell about this powerful extension that I will move to screen shots to save space.
Here is a Shot of the search Icon add-in at work. I did a search that I know would pull up some doubtful sites
As you can see the suspect site has a red icon. The rating panel shows that it had a low safety rating. It is not the kind of site you want to visit! You might want to note that there is a child safety rating. You can set up WOT to block any sites that have a low child rating
At this point you may be wondering where WOT gathers there rating data. An that answer is you and millions of other users like you. the wot extension has a build in peer rating poll so you can add you rating and comment on the site instantly . As seen in the shot below.
As you can clearly see You can control your setting and learn how to use the Web of Trust by accessing ether setting or guide in this panel.
Another Item that I liked was the site by site rating system. It is active each time that you enter a site that has be rated. There will be a yellow light on the wot button to lets you know that a rating for the site is available. Click on the button to view the rating for the site you are on, as seen below.
At this point I need to mention for the sake of honest reporting that there is a tiny bug extension bug that affects the pop-up panel .The width shrinks with each click of the button till it closes entirely then it resets to full size. This was the only thing that I found wrong with a otherwise flawless security extension. I have consulted with the opera developers and have been assured that the bug would be corrected in future releases. However I did find a good work around for this is to click on the post comments link and edit and view ratings from that page. Ah new Technology what would we do with out it! lol life would be so simple if there were no bugs to deal with...
To summarize, Combine with the already tremendously Powerful Opera 11 Security Features adding the WOT extension will make you almost bullet proof. remember a informed decision is the best security you can have the web and WOT can help you with that. With all the Holiday goodies out there and the kids home surfing for the season , it is a good time to review you system security. I think that you will find that the "Web Of Trust" is a must have item as is did every with the tiny faults. I can live with the bug till there is a fix in order to get the great added security.
P.S. The WOT home page has a complete set of tutorial youtube videos to get you going fast and great community support.
Today the Developers lounge has been full of rumors and innuendos, that Opera 11 Is going to make the planned Holiday dead line. Today alone there has been three Opera 11 Release Candidates posted for testing. each had a long list of changes and fixes all were improvements over the last version. Santa's Elves
Have been hard at work getting Ready.
Too those that may have a interest in the mouse gestures . The sensitivity has be greatly improved. Also you will be able to cut off the gesture screen if you wish in opera config.
On the tab stacking front... Auto tabbing has been suspended for the time being until better deployment plan can be found. it may pop up in a better form at a later date.
Opera has become wickedly stable and fast. there has been a load of improvement is webm rendering and graphics in general.
For the Moment Opera voice is offline and I can't tell you weather is is going to be back in time for the final release.
On the up side you will have 200+ Opera extensions to enhance your surfing experience. That should give you something to play with while you wait to see if voice is going to come back.
There are more that a few fixes and tweaks to the mail system as well.
to sum it all Up .....
Happy Holidays From all the Hard working Developers , Beta Testers, extension developers... we All wish you the best holiday ever
It has been a while Since I have posted the latest inside scoop for all my loyal Opera fans. Well I can tell you it was worth the wait, Christmas here a Opera is going to be great.
Opera 11 beta will be going up for Simi- Public testing tomorrow. and Opera 11 might make it public in time for Christmas. The New Features that have been added will excite you and keep you busy for the rest of the year trying to learn to use all the new items.
has a New Online Extension page that is a click and install secure location for easy use.
When you Get Opera 11 you will find a new Item in the Opera Menu "Extensions" from there you will be able to Get and Manage extensions . You be be able to find more info on extensions from here as well.
The Developers of Opera have been work fast and furious to give you a really great holiday this year knowing how hard times are for everyone.. To date there are 134 extensions. that number has been growing at about 10 new ones a day.
Here is a sneak peek are the extention Application page at Opera
After you have selected and installed your first extension ,a extension control panel tab will appear. You can access it later from the Opera main menu. you will be to set you privacy and perf for each extension from the panel. You will also be able to enable and disable and uninstall them from the control tab. below is a small peek . Did I tell you that extensions have auto update ? I would not want to ruin you Holiday suprise.
Now the Next, Item in Santa's Geek bag is the New Mail system. Opera mail had received a much needed face lift. this will give you much faster access to all you mail rss and newsgroups . The now have there own folder and one button access. filter and labels have be combined so all labeled items are grouped for quick searches . take a look at the new system.
As you can see each has it own message count so you can spot new mail at a glance the different folders will expand or collapse at the click of a mouse. items can be draged and droped to move from label to label. and folders can be arranged or hidden however you like.
Talking about drag and Drop we get into Santa's next geek toy that has been worked on and improved. visual mouse gestures. And I give you this quote from the desk top blog and harrvard.
Many of you know of and love the ability to control the browser by doing small and fast gestures with your mouse. Mouse gestures is another genuine Opera innovation that was first introduced in Opera 5.1 in April 2001. Ten years later it is about to time to give it a massive face-lift. Our focus has been two-fold. First, we want more people to discover the basics of this extremely nice and sticky feature. Second, we want people to learn more mouse gestures than just the simple back and forward. To use the visual guide to mouse gestures, simply long press the right mouse button. But those who don't already use use mouse gestures in Opera should be aware of one thing before they test this out: This is addictive stuff!
Now as you surf with your new mouse gestures you will notice that the address bar has changed a bit it now has a badge for secure, trusted and plain web site also you can right click on the badge and get detailed site security info.
the Final awesome holiday gift is the best.... Tab grouping for all you chronic mass tabbers. you know who you are the researcher that has 50 + tabs open at the same time. Now you can drag and drop tabs onto each other and create a tab stack. Take a look When you hover you mouse over the tab stack the tab stack image will have all the tabs in the stack . Just move you mouse pointer to the one that you want click and it moves to the main screen
Another feature of tab groups is the slider arrow with which you can expand or collapse your tab stack across the tab bar area. if you right click on the tab stack tab you will see that tab stack options hav appeared. you can ether break apart the stack or close the stack there. it is only active when there is a tab stack present. take a look.
There are a few other things in the mix for the holiday, but I do not want to ruin your surprise by giving away every thing. I will give you a hint, one has to do with Search and the other has to do with html5 css3 video. speed and performance are also very interesting.
Every One Have a Safe And Happy Holiday Season .
P.S.If You would like to become a beta Tester and Take Opera 11 beta out for a test drive, Use the link below:

Web sockets will open us up to a whole world of applications that need a two way connections such as video chat, instant messaging, collaborating online work, sharing video editing in real time just to name a few things that might be done with Opera soon. It's use is limited by the imagination of web developers only.
I don't know about you but I am getting excited about the future of Opera and the Internet. So keep in touch right here for updates on the horizon
I Thought that with "Opera 11" looming just over the horizon ... I would break out the old Opera crystal ball one more time and peek into the future of Opera. Come with me and gaze into my Crystal Ball. A Webm image is beginning to form in the mist. (paste or do weird cackling laugh here)
Ah yes , I see it, a sharp image is forming. I See that Our Chinese users will be very happy to find that the Opera Browsers will be supporting in the near future the updated Big5-HKSCS means that a opera will be giving much better support for Chinese Charterers , may ever they could chat in Chinese, who knows....
There I am seeing another clear image in the mist, of a completely new Mail Layout. It will have separate folded for RSS feeds ,newsgroups and Mail accounts. It appears that the new mail layout is much quicker to navigate. The lay out is much more logical. Of course it has a "old fuddy duddy" option for users to revert back to the classic mail style if they can't take it.
Ahh! the mist of the Crystal is swirling again , but the image is not sharp I caught a glimpse, somthing about adding support for multicast video streams ??? can tell what it means ?? Ah there the image is again. No, it is a different one, concentrate see if you can make it clearer. There it is HbbTv
but wait the is another swirling image in the mist of the crystal ball. I see a announcement from Opera... look harder... it is becoming clearer. Trident and Opera's plan to rule the world
it says here that Trident Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRID), a leading provider of set-top box and TV semiconductor solutions, today announced that it has been working closely with Opera to deliver a Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV (HbbTV)-compliant browser solution??? the Image is fading now you will have to read the article.
There, there is another Image coming in the mist is clearing but it is surrounded in a cloak of mystery Somthing about a big Opera Press Event October 14 hummm see if you can make any thing of it.
Prepare for an avanlanche! UpNorthWeb
I see one more image in my cyrstal Ball, I see a image of the Developers ( their are 9 new ones) giving the beta tester a new tool that will greatly improve the stability of Opera and shortening the startup and shut down times for Opera. The Rest of the images are to dim and fading to make anything out yet.
there is one image! it is of one of the newly hired Developers, can you see him
Their he is
What every Opera is planing, I am sure that it will be exciting and innovative, as Only Opera can be !!!
but I will break out my Opera cyrstal ball from time to time and see if I can catch a glimpse our futures.
For the Past few weeks The Opera Desktop team Has been as tight lipped about upcoming new features in Opera as Steve Jobs is about new I-phones. The Beta testers have considered kidnapping haavard and forcing him to watch old chrome speed ads till he revealed the secret of what the new features might be. Since the new Snapshot with the new features is due to be released sometime tomorrow, we decided not to risk it and would just wait. (lucky for haavard)
However their has been a few tiny leaks here and their. What this blogger did manage to glean, might newsworthy. Whatever they are adding will be in the side panel... and "might" have something to do with one of two things, the Mail or RSS feeds. Beta Tester have been speculating that The RSS News feeds will get their own button and folder, separate from the mail folder . I think would be a nice improvement.
As we all know, the mail routine development has been neglected for some time now during the race to enable HTML5 in Opera . A long overdue overhaul of the mail system would be much appreciated by Opera users.
For now, one can only guess as to what the New features could be. Second guesses are still flying around in the Shapshot chat room. Some think they will enable Hardware Acceleration for a test drive in this next snapshot. Some think it might be a calendar , and some were swearing it would be changes in opera unite.
I Guess what ever the "New Feature" is, We All will have to wait till tomorrow to find out. I am sure that whatever it is, it will be a great new Feature for Opera.
P.S. Opera Mini is also now #1 in 9 of the 11 Next-11 nations...Just became 1st in Iran and Turkey. Opera Mini now #1 in 3 out of 4 BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India, China
Mr. Sulu take her out " Warp Factor .70 " A Beta tester's look into what might be in Opera's future ....
It has been quite some time since I last updated you on the progress of Opera Development and Research. To be honest there hasn't been much to blog about since the release of Opera 10.60. The crew at oslo took their well deserved annual summer vacation after working there collective butts off for us building a really great version of opera. Their were rumors of many wild parties in Norway
They left two or three interns working the office in oslo. who were on there best behavior answering the company phone and blogging about stuff that the might and might not know anything about.
we enjoyed reading there first official blogs for Opera Browser, as they told us about most of the company trade secrets without meaning to. (they are still young) ....
As you now know the summer vacation ended about a week ago and the Desktop team returned refreshed in mind and spirit and roaring to go. They started turning out>>> daily <<< Snapshots for testing. They must have drank to much green tea They then when on a tangent, splitting the testing cycle into two branches. They Released 10.61 and the more mysterious Opera 10.70 on the same day, which I am now testing, which I will dicuss more in depth in just a bit after posting this hot news flash.
Hot News Flash!!!
As you know Opera 10.60 went up on the ftp server first thing this morning. Then crashed about ten minutes later. I though it was because of the demand on the server, but from the info I just got at the opera news desk, a construction worker cut Opera's Fiber-Optics line in two.
Now back to the topic at hand Opera 10.70 which I am currently testing. Rumors are Opera 10.70 will not be Released to the public till Christmas. Wandering all over the Opera site and asking about plans for Opera. I did get a few hints. The main Item on the agenda seems to be Hardware Acceleration for Opera. Depending on you Hardware setup (video cards) this could lead to huge improvements in performance and a good reduction in cpu usage. Flash which has HA would give you a hint of what might happen with your system.
Another little tid-bit just in from the hidden mike in the developers lounge. They are working on optional per tab processes. This would mean, that all activity in background tabs like refresh, flash ads and other stuff could be turned off, I think This would focus all your allocated processing power to the tab that you are actively surfing.
Of Course the Developers did Hint that there would be a good collection of Geek toys in the Opera 10.70 Christmas Bag This year as usual....
Opera 10.70 will be even faster and much more intuitive. Users searching is getting less cluttered by the day.The inline search bar had had a few small twiks and improvements. Widgets should be working again.
Security is improving. There has been a few improvements in how Opera handles security certificates.
But at the current rate that Opera is evolving, Opera could be called Opera 11 by Christmas ... who knows
So, There you have it. All the hints, rumors and facts about Opera 10.70 that I have gatheres till my next blog post
