"A New Beginning"

Mr. Sulu take her out " Warp Factor .70 " A Beta tester's look into what might be in Opera's future ....

Greeting,

It has been quite some time since I last updated you on the progress of Opera Development and Research. To be honest there hasn't been much to blog about since the release of Opera 10.60. The crew at oslo took their well deserved annual summer vacation after working there collective butts off for us building a really great version of opera. Their were rumors of many wild parties in Norway party drunk sing beer cheers yes lol

They left two or three interns working the office in oslo. confused who were on there best behavior angel answering the company phone and blogging about stuff that the might and might not know anything about. whistle
we enjoyed reading there first official blogs for Opera Browser, as they told us about most of the company trade secrets without meaning to. (they are still young) ....

As you now know the summer vacation ended about a week ago and the Desktop team returned refreshed in mind and spirit and roaring to go. They started turning out>>> daily <<< Snapshots for testing. They must have drank to much green tea They then when on a tangent, splitting the testing cycle into two branches. yikes They Released 10.61 and the more mysterious Opera 10.70 on the same day, which I am now testing, which I will dicuss more in depth in just a bit after posting this hot news flash.

Hot News Flash!!!

As you know Opera 10.60 went up on the ftp server first thing this morning. Then crashed about ten minutes later. I though it was because of the demand on the server, but from the info I just got at the opera news desk, a construction worker cut Opera's Fiber-Optics line in two. cry

Now back to the topic at hand Opera 10.70 which I am currently testing. Rumors are Opera 10.70 will not be Released to the public till Christmas. Wandering all over the Opera site and asking about plans for Opera. I did get a few hints. The main Item on the agenda seems to be Hardware Acceleration for Opera. Depending on you Hardware setup (video cards) this could lead to huge improvements in performance and a good reduction in cpu usage. Flash which has HA would give you a hint of what might happen with your system.

Another little tid-bit just in from the hidden mike in the developers lounge. They are working on optional per tab processes. This would mean, that all activity in background tabs like refresh, flash ads and other stuff could be turned off, I think confused This would focus all your allocated processing power to the tab that you are actively surfing.

Of Course the Developers did Hint that there would be a good collection of Geek toys in the Opera 10.70 Christmas Bag This year as usual.... jester

A note to web Developers, Opera 10.70 will be including many more HTML5 and CSS3 standards improvements and corrections. also Persistent Storage implementation for User JavaScript. Another thing that was only whispered about, was something to do with DDTV whatever that is, I hear it is in romania ??

Opera 10.70 will be even faster and much more intuitive. Users searching is getting less cluttered by the day.The inline search bar had had a few small twiks and improvements. Widgets should be working again.

Security is improving. There has been a few improvements in how Opera handles security certificates.

But at the current rate that Opera is evolving, Opera could be called Opera 11 by Christmas yikes ... who knows confused

So, There you have it. All the hints, rumors and facts about Opera 10.70 that I have gatheres till my next blog post

cheers!!

I'm glad they are doing something about the CPU/memory issues. Since 10.50 Opera is consuming ridiculous amount of memory vs other browsers.
