Get ready for Mail Call !!! Opera 11.60 is about ready to go Final

, , , ...

Greetings Fans

Opera 11.60 contains big changes to the Opera's mail client. You'll need to play with it for a while to adjust. I known that 'change' is a scary word for many people, but I think that you will like the mail client once you tweak it to your personal taste. It is designed to work nicely on big and/or wide screens. What you'll see:

one of the nice new layout featured is the quite roomy message control panel that will pop up at a click of the wrench on the top right side of the mail tab. You will be able to quickly customize you mail display from here. You will be able to sort your mail by date, label, status, size and subject by making a selection on the topmost drop-down menu.

The next drop-down menu of interest is grouping. This is a new option that will allow additional sorting by date, read status,a new feature pinned status and no grouping. By selecting grouping by date, Labeled separator bars for the days , weeks, months and years will appear in the mail list. You may also set threading, fit to width and show quick reply.

This is what you will see when you click on the setting wrench:

Another Item of interest that I found was the option to override your default settings and customize your settings for individual labels according to your needs. You will find new Icon that looks a little like a rss feed icon at the top of the message list panel . If you check the override check box you can the adjust sorting for that label.

the setting panel looks like this :

The thread control panel is Opened by clicking on the icon next to the label sorting override icon . it look a bit like a page with writing on it. Note: be activating thread all messages will be hidden except for the current message are corresponding threads.you can toggle back to all messages view by clicking on the mail folder for that group of messages.

the thread control panel looks like this :

The one other change that you will notice is a extra label for pinned in your all messages area. I believe that once you settle into the new mail layout you will like it as much as I do for quick location and easy access. yes

One thing that you might want to do is back up your profile before upgrading . The new mail format isn't reverse compatible. Once you have updated there is no turning back. Unless you have a mail backup of 11.52 , 11.52 does not display 1060 mail format. You would have to put 11.52 mail back in to see your mail in 11.52 o This notice is for those that just can't handle change. the mail system is stable and ready to go. p

below is a link to a Opera backup tool that is alway good to have around for these occasions wink
Disco Stu's Opera import & export tool

If you are scared of Change, backup first p

There are a few major internal changes in 11.60 that are going to improve stability , speed and turbo
a new HTML5 parser (Ragnarök) has been updated with various bug fixes. They have added a speculative tokenization step to load external resources while waiting for scripts. These changes should improve performance, particularly when using Turbo.

This is about all the changes you can expect until the holiday season. As you know, Opera has always be big on Xmas. This year may be Really big. I may post on this blog later about that. For now you can't unwrap you presents until Xmas. p

cheers!!

beta testing for Opera update on the progress...Or not

, , , ...

beta testing is a pain!

Testing Opera Is really alot of hard work, but I am willing to do it to see to it that Opera users Have the best browser on the Internet. Right now I would say that Opera Shapshot version 10.52 build 3347 is still about a month away from being ready for a public release date. At this Point of Developement it could be summer before another Update of Opera.

I say this because the current build is plagued with many small technical Problems. I am not saying that the news is all bad, there are many great new features going into this verion that I think that you the opera users will love. First there is a problem with very heavy CPU usage with scrolling and loading graphic intense web pages. The second Item on the list, this version still has dsn and cookie problems that may cause logging issues with some users, but the Developers are quickly resolving this as they are reported .In some areas things are missing or disabled due to typo errors in the source code, but they too are getting fixed as soon as they are reported.

On the OperaUnte Front... good news!. Almost All Of the Unite Applications are working, with the exception of the web cam app and the Fridge. Fridge has become a Opera to Opera App only . Even Shout box is working. For the Most part the Unite system is good to go you can now use your computer to set up your own web site with out needing to get web server space (cost money)

On the Browser Speed Front. Opera 10.50 was clocked by the Peacekeeper Browser testing service, as the fastest browser one the Internet. However during the bug smashing phase of development, Opera 1052.is sliding up and down on that scale as Developers try to find a happy balance between speed and stability. They have stabilized the graphics engins to the point that all players are easily viewable

From what I have seen so far, you are going to get a stunning Browser when the job is done. The graphics are HI DEF and the general Text and Graphics are sharp as a tack. The New Opera is made to blend in seamlessly with Visa and windows 7 features as well as working well for a whole list of other OS systems . I can tell you now that Opera looks great on a 42" HDTV Screen or milti monitors. They have added so many shortcuts that you can practically navigate Opera without touching your mouse. They have added so many new features , it will take you a week to learn how everything works. That is one of the main reasons that I am such a big Opera fan . After all, they are the only browser that I know of that has 7/24 irc teck support in the chat rooms..hehe

Cheers!

P.S. check back about this time next week for a new report...
