Just re-saw the film "Menphis belle", a very simpel but, as far as i know, the only remotly realistic film about the american bomber flet under WWII.
The film is quite simpel about 1.mission, but the 25. for the Menphis belle.
(a B-17 bomber, crew 9)
If crews had performed 25 missions, they could "go home".
Very few lived 2 see that day !
250.000 planes flew over europa in that "blody war", and an estimate is that 200.000 pilots and crewmen died (from all nations in total).
I'm facinated with planes and the consept of flying, NOT war!
This film is a straight forward reminder of how simpel an brutal war could be.

I can fully sympathize with your fascination of planes, NOT war.

I'm facinated by the histori off Air war, and how one decicion on one part led 2 great relief or great pain = losses !
My IL2 game, ("Ilushin", the constuctor)is built upon the figtherplane of the "sturmovik", a great an rugged plane that the germans fiert very much, calling it "the black death".(26.000 built)
It was the first plane EVER to cary a "tank-like cannon/37mm shells!", and it requiered
VERY good skills of the pilot 2 use it, it allmost stopt the plane in mid air when you fired it 2 shells at the time, only alowing the pilot to fire with min 2-3 sekunds apart !
2-3 sekunds is the differens betwin life and death at that time, and a lot of time in a dive, so they had to be "really cool" in the most significant sence of the word !
All in all, al my prying into this subjekt has told me alot !
1: The Americans DID NOT WIND THIS WAR !, The Russians did !
2: If not for the Russians, Europa would be NAZI terrotorry !
3: The Russians very quikly built weapons 2 match the germans, US and Englang DID NOT !
I could go on and on about this, but not 2 night ; hee !
