ticks - annoying small creatures

Yesterday I was jogging in the evening. For me jogging is really good to calm down after the whole day in front of the screen.

Normally my "jogging route" is a small way to the neighbour town and back to home. The way is alongside a railroad. In the neighbour town I cross that railroad on a level-crossing and ran back.
But yesterday I decided to run on an other way. Near my home is a beautiful forest where you can see very often other joggers.
Through the forest there is a very nice pathway with some branching paths. It's really cool there and of course not so hot like directly in the sun. The floor cover is also good to run because I usually used to run on asphalt.

Well I did one big round on the big pathway through the forest and decided to run a smaller one again. So after the big round I chose an other smaller pathway. Well the smaller pathway I chose was not a good choice I realised later. At the end of the small round the path became more and more overgrown. :eyes:
When I came back after the second round I immediately checked if I have some ticks on my cloths. Well I found two ticks there. Just three minutes later the first one crawled on my arm. It seems that small creature crawled to my arm when I had the hands on my legs. Really strange. But I blowed it away. The other one I found on my t-shirt. In this case I was glad I usually use long jogging trousers.
Well when I came home I checked again if I have some ticks on my body because these small creatures are often vectors of a number of diseases and the area where I live is a region at risk in this
case. I didn't found others there. Well I really don't like these small creatures. :irked:

I will go jogging there again, but next time I will definitely choose the normal pathway. Because there you don't have such problems in normal case.

Best wishes,
Heiko

yes, they can be very dangerous. I wish there was a way to get rid of them totally.

Dacotah 3. July 2009, 22:50

I don't care for tics, especially wood tics, they have lyme disease.

Ryuu 3. July 2009, 23:36

Hello Kimberly
Yeah, I prefer not to have contact with ticks, because I live in a region at risk here. Unfortunately it's not seldom people become a very bad disease from that. So I really try to avoid it.:left:

Hmm I don't remember I had a tick bite so far.

Best wishes,
Heiko

Ryuu 3. July 2009, 23:43

Hello Carol,
you really don't care? Well much people became a disease from ticks. The problem was not the bite. But very much people noticed it too late. An common disease from ticks can be Borreliosis or TBE (tick-borne encephalitis) here.
I often hear people cannot really walk anymore, because of Borreliosis.
Well therefore it's better to take care.

Best wishes,
Heiko

Dacotah 4. July 2009, 00:42

Heiko, what I mean when I said "I don't care for tics" means I do not like tics. I was bit by a deer tic and it gave me the lyme disease. I meant deer tic not wood tic in my above comment.

Dacotah 4. July 2009, 02:36

I really do care that people get bit by them.

SqueakeyCat 4. July 2009, 05:55

y tell me i have something then do nothing to treat it?

Ryuu 4. July 2009, 13:49

Hello Carol,
thank you very much. I'm sorry for my misunderstanding. My English is still not good. :worried:

I hope the lime disease is not so bad.

Best wishes,
Heiko

Hello Kimberly,
it's a pity you got lime disease. I also hope it's not so bad.
I read about there is a antibiotics therapy because the disease is caused by a bacterium. But I don't know so much about.

Best wishes,
Heiko

SqueakeyCat 4. July 2009, 15:02

yeah, there are, but what do you do when dr says you got it then don't treat it?

Dacotah 4. July 2009, 16:21

Hi Heiko,
Lyme disease is the same as Borreliosis.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lime_Disease

"Lyme disease, or borreliosis, is an emerging infectious disease caused by at least three species of bacteria belonging to the genus Borrelia.[1] Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto is the predominant cause of Lyme disease in the United States, whereas Borrelia afzelii and Borrelia garinii are implicated in most European cases."

That's ok Heiko, I'm just glad I could clear it up.

Ryuu 4. July 2009, 17:37

Hello Kimberly,
I think this is not good when the doctor said this. Maybe you can contact an other doctor? Well I would ask an other doctor when the first one tell me don't treat it.

I really hope the disease is not so bad.

Best wishes,
Heiko

Ryuu 4. July 2009, 17:41

Hello Carol,
thanks a lot. I also checked German Wikipedia. An other word in German is "Lyme-Krankheit" which means "Lyme disease".

Thank you very much, Carol.

Best wishes,
Heiko

my doctors here in florida have said nothing about it...i think it was that doctor's way of getting more money out of medicaid.....sad, very sad, of a doctor to do something like that.

Ryuu 5. July 2009, 02:53

Hello Kimberly
very true words. It's really sad when a doctor do that. :worried: I hope such doctors are only an exceptional case.

Best wishes,
Heiko

SqueakeyCat 5. July 2009, 17:55

Ryuu 5. July 2009, 21:39

Hallo Numi,
vielen Dank.

Viele Gruesse,
Heiko
