【Day 39】Qin Pu-Amazing Trip
Monday, August 28, 2006 5:38:53 AM
This trip is planed by Dennis ,a pre-architect and passionate about all filming all kinds of architectures;
I, in the name of exploration and experience the wonderland here, go with him also
This trip turns out to be quite a fruitful one.
One Central City with Nine Satellite Towns
This is the strategic plan of SH, granting the high development of vicinities.
On the way there, the sky was grey, reminding me of what I had experienced in Wu Xi days before, together with seeing many young people seemingly like floating hard works,
I came with an assumption that this area is filled with factories thus I was first a little depressed about this trip.
Yet when we were approaching near the center , many buildings were showing up, esp. those official buildings or management centers for this industrial zone;
“I would rather come to this industrial park if I were to leave SH urban!”, I could not help disclaiming that.
A Town with Neo-Traditional Chinese Style
I was told by Dennis that this town has attracted many internationally famous architects to help design with a theme of reflecting traditional Chinese style with flavor of the modern times.
I could see the blender of traditional Chinese element and modern ones , the pointed angle of pavilion companied by nowadays shop windows, traditional Su Zhou Parks announced by a magic cement shadow, (sorry for my unfamiliarity with architect jargons ) ……
Especially after some explanation of the origin and delicate points of these design, I could not help marvel at the depth, width and delicacy of this art.
Unlike English majors, this art is composed of so many: history, tradition, material chemistry ,physics: feels that they are not merely like English majors who SHOULD know something of everything and everything of something,
They are more than that and I am feeling this way.
See What I’ve Never Seen and Meet Who I Never Expect
Luckily Dennis has got hold of some certificated proof issued by SH Ministry of City Planning that guarantees our special visits as governmental journalists to those areas blocked from common visitors.
So we grabbed some materials of the town planning and development
And we visited the cozy Xia Yu kindergarten (summer rain) which is full of wonders and joys--- teacher’s offices are designed LIKE a worm feasting on four fruits which are actually children’s classroom named after different names of fruits. (I was told that there is no LIKENESS existing in architect, so be careful of this word when u r with an architect otherwise we are marked as doorman though we really are
We also went inside and browse the inner magic of Private Entrepreneurs’ Community,
A big glass and transparent box outside
Yet the inner place is full of changes and varieties in space and elevation.
Just at that place, I also found someone sharing the same superiority as us or even higher,
He is allowed to take more
So we went to have a talk with me and found that he is with The Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tongji University ,
Indeed, through his talk with Dennis, I found out these guys are really of the same
I learned also from their common language.
Happily we three finally made a group and visited another major architecture later and went back, enjoyed dinner together.
Really such a nice day to be remembered!
