Day 1-Possibilities

These words are so warm and sweet as my mentor,R, the French teacher and the dean of Foreign Languages Department showed me how to use different functions of the school system.
I am quite new to everything here. The quite quiet on campus, deers and foxes showed once in a while on campus, and the teaching system in this private school:So different from my student age back in China.
Teachers have their own classroom and office while in China teachers would run into every class and one class of students just wait for what's coming for the next class;---Challenge one: I will have to decorate my classroom with some Chinese elements as necessary while I have not practically bring some from China.
Teachers here teach small class with many different levels unless in China one teacher would just teach some big classes of 60 students at the same grade level for different blocks.---Challenge two: I will have to prepare Five classes everyday from beginner Chinese to Literature Chinese.
The previouse Chinese teacher has done a good job for the past two years, thus i am under a bit pressure and is quite nervous what to do.
But just as what R suggests me to do: read the guideline for the course carefully and know what are expected from the students then find my own approach.
Tonight as i read the materials from the previouse teacher, I read her hard work as well.
Yes, I am new here but so long as i am open to possibilities and new explorations, I should have the confidence to handle this job.
OK now back to work.[/FONT]

Looks like you are teaching on the college level. Where might that be?
Actually the teaching experience can vary quite a bit here in the Americas. It depends on where you are,who you teach and what you teach.
Do you have to write lesson plans etc? There is an easy way to do that. Interested? Let me know. I do not know everything but I may be able to help.
I used to teach in the USA years ago. French, Spanish, English and Math:happy:

In any case I think you will do just fine. Remember you are just beginning. The teacher's lesson plans before you is from an experienced teacher and she has been there for quite awhile. You are just beginning. You are your own unique self.
This is some of the stuff that foreign language teachers did in the past.
1. Keep as much as the work oral as possible in the beginning levels.
2. Call on each student individually as possible (without warning)
3. Let the students know what is expected of them.
4. Visuals (visual, picture, examples are very useful.
5. Do as much of the class in the native language as possible. (Beginning classes can be taught the oral commands for Open your books, answer roll, etc. Something simple)
6. Wouldn't hurt to tell something about your own life in China if possible. (You can find pictures on the internet.)
I know you will do well because you want to do well.
