Sunday Movie Experience

SMEx

Hancock

, , , , ,

It was my first SMEx and the weather was horrible, though i didn't let it dampen my spirits. We met up in Billabong before hand for the pre-movie beer. There was an unhealthy amount of guys with umbrellas but i decided to let that one pass.

In Hancock, Will Smith plays a lazy-drunk-bum who is lucky enough to have superhero powers. Its a pretty interesting concept and had a lot of scope for good superhero related comedy. The movie doesn't disappoint, with some great laughs in the first half of the movie and a pretty decent performance from Will Smith.

Unfortunatly this is where it started to go downhill, the second half of the movie took itself far to seriously and broke the formula which worked so well in the first half. Don't get me wrong, i still enjoyed the movie, i just think i would have enjoyed an entire movie of drunken superhero laughs more.

Technically Hancock has everything, some great laughs, a very attractive lady, decent action scenes, some drama, suspense and a couple of interesting twists. Maybe it was trying too hard to include everything.

Still if you have an evening to spare, there are enough laughs in this movie to make up for its inconsistant genre.

Yes, I have to agree. It was a pretty descent movie and the twists really suprised me. But I think they just couldn't decide whether to make a comedy or a serious movie.

I wonder what the Hoff thinks about it (at least they used some decent Whiskey bottles) wink

Yeah I agree the movie was a little up and down but did have a few nice lines, and some nice superhero outfits wink

Nice review, Jeremy. I liked the movie. It was different- yes, the second half was way too serious- but it didn't make the movie horrible. Just a surprising twist. It was a nice evening. Great to see so many smexy people present. GOOD JOB ! smile

Good review, to the point, again it feels like 2 movies in one, it probably had more potential going the comedic way, but nonetheless it was entertaining, good sunday night movie.

Great movie, I feel we're really on the roll here. The bank job last week, crazy bum superhero - with a twist - this week. It was definitelly a very good movie, some good laughs, some surprising twists - all in all not your-usual-superhero-movie at all.

Great review Jeremy! I agree completely. The movie was definitely entertaining, but could have been better. We should have used the Norwegian poster where you can see Holmenkollen in the sunglasses smile

I did look for the norwegian poster but couldn't find it, shame really! If anyone finds it online put it up!

I uploaded one, but I can't edit the post. So if one of the group admins can update the poster, that would be nice.. of course only if you want to smile
