Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's stature in the West was largely a result of his cross-cultural collaborations and slickly produced recordings on the Real World label, but he was already a huge star in Pakistan with many recordings to his credit. The Ultimate Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Vol. 1 is a collection of some of his Pakistani recordings dating from 1978-1982, before his international stardom. This is pure, undiluted qawwali: vocals, harmonium, tabla, and handclaps with the addition of a qanoun (similar to a hammered dulcimer) on a couple tracks. Of course, given his prodigious output, the ultimate-ness of this collection may be debatable, but there's no doubt that this is top-notch qawwali music performed by one of its greatest ensembles. Khan's catalog is unwieldy, to say the least, but if you're looking for pure qawwali music with no concessions to the West, this would serve as an excellent addition or introduction to one of the great singers of the 20th century.

Je vais voir ce que je peux faire pour l'Eau de Jeanne Chéral mais ça devrait être jouable...
Sinon, content que ton retour en terres Moodswinguiennes se fasse avec autant d'enthousiasme... Ca fait toujours plaisir ce genre de commentaire !
Et je ne connais pas les McGarrigle Sisters mais si tu veux bien faire tourner le lien, c'est avec plaisir que je comblerai ma méconnaissance !

kate mcgarrigle c'est l'ex femme de loudon wainwright III, mère de rufus et martha wainwright... tous des songwriters d'exception!!!
loudon s'est remarié avec suzanne roche, du groupe the roches. je connais pas encore les roches mais j'entends du dire que c'est a peu pres les même harmonies musicales feminines folk que j'adore...
c'est la peut être je pense la famille musicale la plus douée de l'histoire du pop rock folk!

A noter que ce bootleg a quelques excellentes versions de certaines chansons (par exemple work song) que je trouve meilleures que les versions studio qui furent trop aseptisées et pas assez roots a mon gout..
