Breach of confidentiality

The psychologist was so alarmed at this that he reported the man to the police; the patient was arrested and is now in prison for "uttering death threats" (this is illegal, I presume).
The interesting question is whether the psych was correct in reporting this. I would suppose that, during therapy, quite a number of aggressive impulses surface, isn't that one of the main goals of psychotherapy? Do the psych in question report all of the "I wish my mother was dead"-type exclamations (I have worked in the field myself - in my youth - and have heard the oddest aggressions uttered)?
If yes, ought he not to change his field into something else?
Anyway, I guess the psychologist here has lost a patient now. The prison psych will have to take over.
