tUM 2008: Jeroen Tel and compo night

,

Jeroen TelBig party time on tUM: Jeroen Tel, one of the best music artists (Turbo Outrun for example) of the C64 era, did a really great show on tUM and many people were dancing and having fun. It was most definately one of the highlights of the party. :headbang:

Combined Low-EndThe three entries did a good job and the ZX Spectrum Demo "Aeon" by Triebkraft & 4th Dimension really kicked asses! :eyes:

High-End 4k / High-End 64k / High-End DemoUsually these parts should be filled with eye candies and cool stuff, but to be honest most of the demos were just "okay" or even less. Best entry (in my opinion) was "belgian summer" by cOcOOn and Bonzai Bros, who showed a visually nice demo with great soundtrack in just 4kB.

...oh yeah I missed to mention the compos Fixed Style Music, Game and 4K Executable Graphics, right? Okay, here we go... the Music compo was good, yes really nice. Only one Game (made for Wii) but it was really funny and 4K ExeGraphics were okay... nothing realy breathtaking.

Now I'm looking forward for the Ultimate Breakfast and the Prize Giving. Hopefully my image will do well. For now... I'm off having a coffee. :coffee:

tUM 2008: the Ultimate Meat-Thing and other yummies

,

... and more competitions. We had the

Modern Tools Graphics
With 9 entries it was much bigger than the oldschool graphics compo, but the quality wasn't really much better. While some images were really done nicely, others looked a bit weird or even heartless. All in all it will be still a very interestingg compo, but imho the oldschool compo was a bit better.

Tracked Music
Four competitors here, except for the first with totally poor audio quality all tracks were pretty good. othing really surprising, but still worth listening.

Loop
Now this was a surprising compo. The idea is that the artist creates a small music snippets with a maximum length of 7seconds and this snippet will be looped for 30 seconds. There were 16 (!) entries, with many excellent ones among them. Interesting to see, how creative and skilled some (sadly not all) artists can use just 7 seconds! :headbang:

The Ultimate Meat-ThingOutside of the party halls the demo group nuance had their special event by spending their well deserved winner money from the buenzli party to buy loads of fat meat to have a great BBQ with their scene friends. It was YUMMY!

The invisible heroesYes, I think it should be mentioned that the organizers do a awesome job here. So I think it's about time to at least show two of them here. The photo shows Katje and SaVke (the guy in the background... yes, the one who had this windscreen trouble on rewired2008).

tUM 2008: Next day... more compos!

,

Uarghh!... good mornin'... I went to bed around 6am, but I think I had one of the most comfortable beds tonight on this party as I took the mobile home of my parents and got here. So here we go, next day! Directly ordered a pizza, bought myself a coffee mug from Individual Computers, one of the sponsors of tUM.

Executable MusicThere were three entries, but pretty good stuff! I especially liked the music made for a ZX Spectrum called "torchbot", as it sounded really full and well made.

Oldschool GraphicsThis is the part I compete in too... will see how it works out. I did my best, but the competitors are really really good. :eyes:
Five entries for DOS, C64, Amiga and even an Amstrad CPC464 graphics. I've seen yesterday how some of those were done and I must admit, that I was deeply impressed by the skill of the artists. I really need far more practise, but at least my image wasn't all that bad, so I'm hoping for a good score. Wish me luck! :coffee:

Streamed Music
While I'm writing this blog entry the hall is filled with fat, loud music that rocks (or at leasts hurts my ears and stomach very badly  ). Right now track 4 "Sky Phenomina" is playing... imho one of the better tracks.

tUM2008: First event and first compo

,

Buck & Roger
FRaNKy and DJefke started the first event after the official opening ceremony (which was a crazy "Day of the Tentacle" parody) with a loud remixing session of some classics with some evil, fat bass and video-support. Some songs were really great, others at least really loud.

WiLD-compo
About half an hour ago we saw the competition entries for the WiLD-compo. First was a lovely "washbear"-video (a teddy bear animated inside a drawn washing machine). Second a small animation with music made with Silverlight (as far as I can remember), the last presented entry was kind of a stop-motion-video (some guy jumping around in his appartment, never touching the ground) with music. :D

Welcome to the Ultimate Meeting 2008

,

Here we go again! This time I'm in Karlsruhe-Durlach/Germany, for the first time I'm at the Ultimate Meeting, one of the worlds biggest demoscene parties. This year's theme is "demoscene in outer space", a bit of retro 50's-70's scifi tv-series and movies like the classic Battlestar Galactica, Raumpatrouille, Barbarella and alike.

There are already alot of people around busy finishing their entries for the competitions, meeting friends or just relaxing, having fun.

More to come, but right now I have to work on my own entry go get it done before the deadline.

A more... or less... merry Xmas

This year's Xmas was by far one of the most disturbing I ever had... with very bad down- and surprising upsides. But let's start with the Xmas party of my company...
