new design coming soon...

breakpoint2010: and more compos... woah my hands start to hurt from applauding

,

After a short break the big compo parts started... and considering that we already had 10 entries in the C64 graphics compo, many of those with outstanding quality you can surely guess how long the next compos would take. cool

Handmade graphics
For non-sceners: handmade graphics means that you can use anything you created with your very own hands, so no photos or third party stuff, unlike in freestyle graphics.

There we 17 entries just in this category, so it took quite some time to see them all. smile
The competition was very tough as there where some true gems among them. So here for your entertainment... A FEW images:

Freestyle graphics
I must admit I was surprised by several images here. No less than 18 entries were shown - some techniques were pretty "uncommon" and the results looked so great! I especially liked the entry "Slave to Xray" by spotter, which combined an xray image of a lego Star Wars model with photos and a surface scan:

Animation/Video
I didn't expect much from that category and hell I was surprised! 14 entries were shown (one disqualified afterwards, as it had been released before) and most were really cool (like partly moving houses as shown in "reality check" by mercury). To me two stand the most out:HBC's "How to use Blender"... if there was ever a good argument to use Blender it's been shown here and "Ninja-Gent 2 The Trailer" by in-SeCt which was more of a short movie than "just a trailer". headbang

8th annual scene.org Awards
The scene.org Awards are most likely the most important accolade you can receive in the demoscene and it is given only once per year. The winners this time were:

best demo on an oldschool platform: Instinct & Booze Design "Andropolis" (Platform: Commodore 64/Released at Little Computer People 2009)

Released at Kütyüshop.hu freestyle animation)

breakthrough performance: Adinpsz "Extatique" (Released at Main 2009)
public choice: Andromeda Software Development "Rupture" (Released at The Gathering 2009)

Two entries worth mentioning (very often nominated, but didn't win) were "Jesus Christ Motocross" (by Nature & Traktor on Amiga AGA) and "The Golden Path" (by United Force).

Ronny/Farbrausch DJ Set
Every party needs some kind of DANCING... and breakpoint is no exception. Ronny rocked the hall, that people came in masses to dance the night away, while surely losing their abilty to hear a thing. But gives a damn, if there is no tomorrow?! Great tunes to dance with, cool stuff to get some stuff done meanwhile.

PC 4k intro
The "real stuff" started with the PC 4kB intros. As expected we had a lot of demos here (18 all in all) and the quality was breathtaking. I gave the highest possible rating to more than one entry... I just couldn't decide which one was better... eek
Everytime I see one of those 4kB wonders it makes me wonder why even my EeePC has a 160GB drive?

Amiga 4k intro
Only 3 entries here (where are those AMEEEEGAAAWWW! yellers when it comes to creating demos, huh?!) and started pretty disappointing. I already had given up hope, when THE BEST 4kB intro was shown of the whole party (or at least in my opinion), but judge yourself: ikadalawampu by loonies live

C64 4k intro
A few more than the Amiga had, but all at least good (either technical or artistically, or both). Really surprising was a pretty was a pretty "simple" intro by PWP called "Dramatic Pixels", explaining the ups and downs of human relationships with just a minimum of space. wink

Amiga 64k intro
Again only 3 entries (maybe they yell AMIGA so often, because they're a dieing race and fear their extinction? but they can still prove me wrong in the upcoming Amiga Demo compo) and again the last entry ruled them all. "Charger" by Focus design was an impressive intro, hands down!

As it is already day 3 (close to day 4) and I'm a bit behind with my reports I'll stop here, vote for the entries already shown... and PARTY! headbang

breakpoint 2010: BASS concert and the first composbreakpoint2010: we're reaching the peak... and gladly my hands aren't bleeding, yet

mog writes: Hey! We've been sitting right in front of you at Breakpoint, and as I remember correctly we did not say thanks for trying the demo before submitting it - so here we go: THANK YOU! =) We've also added you to our links area on our site, as we like to collect passionat graphicians and kind people :) Kindest regards, the www.trbl.A-Team
