SciBirg in Cyberspace

A Nerdy Girl in a Man's World

Working :-P

I didn't have enough vacation days left to have the whole week off, so here I am working.
At least I get to work Unix instead of General IT!
Somehow Unix/Linux users have a higher IQ than regular Windoze users (surprise!)

Not many people to support today, though, no complaining here about that.
I am also eagerly awaiting my new phone, a BENQ-Siemens EL71 that is coming in the mail soon.

Can't wait!

Obsessed

,

I am totally obsessed by Human-Age (see post below) and have recruited all my work mates to join me. I am currently on the fire quest and should be done tomorrow. Then I can start on the Weapon maker quest.

FUN!!!!!

And I also play Tycoon Online
I have a thriving furniture industry going there.

And the third MMO I play is Star-ville. But it is not all that fun.

Opera 9 - Always secure with Opera

Cool free online game

I found a really cool, free online game the other day.
It's called Human Age and you start out as a cave man/woman and end up in the future.
It's got nice 3d pictures but it otherwise free from any advanced graphic works.

Woot!

Last week I was at a Linux course for work (I know, I am lucky) and the weirdest part of that was that although we were only 4 people present, due to it being early August, 3 of us were female. Wow!

One of the other women there is also a gamer, like me, although she plays WOW in a guild and not TS2, and she enjoys Sci-fi. I think it is pretty much a first to meet someone that similar to myself.

So, here's to Baywitch! See you around!

"Linux will take over the desktop market in the near future"

, ,

Or so the fanatics claim.

Well, after having spent so far 3 days trying to get fullscreen video from the Linux box to the TV, I have my doubts.

It took me a day to get the proprietary Nvidia drivers installed, another day to get a picture on the TV screen and that's all I have for now. There is a nice picture of my desktop on the TV but the programs I start on the pc don't show at all and in order to get this far I am editing a bunch of text-files. I doubt very much that Linux is going to take over anything much desktop related until there is a less nerdified way of getting your pc to do what you want, although applications like Automatix are a great start.

What's the deal?

How come in every single gaming magazine or online article about gaming noone ever mentions the best-selling game of all time, The Sims? Is it because it is considered a "girly game"?

I don't know. But from my online experience with The Sims and The Sims 2 I have found that these games attract three kinds of people: Girls, Gay's and Geeks. The three G's. I am a Geeky Girl so I guess I more than fit that description. However, the so-called Gamer's, the ones that play Counterstrike and other brain-dead shoot'em-up's, look in contempt on this. Weirdness.

What do you think?

Here are some Victorian housplan to make some Sim houses out of.
