Complete control of the search order

, , , ...

Editing with SearchEdit both search.ini files is not really the best way of managing the order of your search engines because the standard search engines are always shown on the top.
Dude09 wrote a step-by-step guide how to put with SearchEdit's merge-function all engines in one search.ini in your program folder to eliminate this limitation.
However this method has a few disadvantages and I personally believe there is a better way to handle this problem:

Search Suggestion 2

Search suggestion works out of the box for Yandex, Wikipedia, Bing and Baidu.

With a little tweaking you can also add search suggestion to other searches.
You need only to add 2 lines to your searches.

Some examples:

- google suggest english hl=en
download:google.com.se
Suggest Protocol=JSON
Suggest URL=http://www.google.com/complete/search?output=opera&q={SearchTerm}&hl=en

- google suggest german hl=de
download: google.de.se
Suggest Protocol=JSON
Suggest URL=http://www.google.com/complete/search?output=opera&q={SearchTerm}&hl=de

- youtube ds=yt
download: youtube.se
Suggest Protocol=JSON
Suggest URL=http://www.google.com/complete/search?output=opera&q={SearchTerm}&ds=yt&hl=en

Update 1:

Update 3:

With the snapshot build (windows 3413, linux 6355) Opera introduces "search suggestions" a long time wish on many wish-lists bigsmile

We've also added the ability to show suggestions in the search field. You can try it with Wikipedia and Yandex for now.

If search suggestions does not work for you, you are probably not using the standard searches:

The suggestions are (currently) linked to the unique id of the search engine included with Opera.

If you like to use your "old" search.ini you have to change the uniqeIDs

  • Yandex: FEAF2EF45FCC11DD8287529456D89593

Update:
The suggestions are not linked to the UniqueId anymore.
You have to add Suggest Protocol and Suggest URL to your search.ini

Search.ini explained

Unfortunately the article Manually Editing Opera Searches using search.ini is out of date and there have been taken no efforts to make a necessary update. I did a lot of copy&paste – there is no use to re-invent the wheel – but I had to do also a lot of changes and added all the new stuff from Opera 8, 9 & 10.
