SearchEdit - search.ini Editor for Opera

Multi Search - Simultaneous Searches

, , , , ,

With SearchEdit 0.4 we introduced a new feature: “Multi Search”.
Many users might not exactly know how to use “Multi Search” so we have decided to give a few more explications and examples:

Years ago you could with Opera's Search Type 2 (Super Search) make a parallel search of search 1 & search 2 in one window.
Multi Search works different. In fact it's a javascript search.

First you choose your multi search mode: Open search in different tabs or in one tab using frames. If you prefer to use only one tab, you have to choose between 2 or 4 engines. 1 or 3 is not an option... bigsmile

Then select your searches, choose a name and keyword and push the create-button... done smile

Unfortunately there are some restrictions: POST-Searches, JavaScript-searches and empty URL-searches (ex. find in page) are not supported and will not be available for selection.
The same search cannot be used successively in the same tab.

Your chances are good that you can change POST-searches into GET-Searches, like it was done in the example of the subtitles (forum thread). But you have to do this manually.

There is a very handy way to share you multi searches: Use SearchEdit's Import/Export function:

At the moment we are discussing some changes concerning “Multi Search” in SearchEdit 0.5.
Comments are welcome. smile

Something like this I have long sought, this feature in Opera lacking me, many thanks. I only have comments and suggestions for improvements:
1) lack of option in tile vertical tabs in one window (same as in old Opera)
2)the same in frames - tile verticaly (2 engines, but too 3,4, why is probem?), I have wide monitor, it is a better solution.
Thanks for effort, best regards in New Year

We have discussed these points after the release of SE 0.4 and have added vertical split on our intern wish list. The multisearch menu has to be modified too.

Due to lack of time of mikko the next version will unfortunately not be released soon.

But meanwhile you can manually edit your multi search

Arranging the tabs, is a nice idea. Until you implement it into your program these buttons here might help:
