Tutorial – First steps

To start SearchEdit click on the search.jar file. If this does not work, you have to start the tool by clicking the start.bat. Linuxusers may also run start.sh.

Preparation:
- Download SeachEdit and unzip
- First you have to create a search.ini by using Opera.
- Start SearchEdit and open the search.ini from profile.
Menu bar:
- You can select four internal languages (en, ger, fr, lu).
- Choose another language files from this forums.
- at Edit → Insert you can merge other search.ini's.
Tool bar:
- With the arrow buttons you can move up/down the search entries.
- With the delete button search entries will delete in the search.ini. Note: deleting opera's standard searches are only hide and will still shown in the search entries list.
- With the Detail editor you can change the search entries.
Main window:
- In Name you see all your selfcreated search entries.
- If the value of Name ID differs from 0 then the name of the search entry corresponds to this string ID of opera's language file

Keyword means your shortcuts of the search entries.

URL shows the search string (change with the detail editor).
- With the Checkboxes mark as delete you can hide search entries in Opera.
- Enable Separator will set separators under the search entry in the search.ini.
Detail Editor:
- With the Checkboxes mark as delete you can hide search entries in Opera.
- In Name you see all your selfcreated search entries.
- If the value of Name ID differs from 0 then the name of the search entry corresponds to this string ID of opera's language file

URL shows the search string (change with the Detail Editor).
- The entry of Verbtext refers to the language file. The corresponding string will be used to name the search engines in search fields.

Query corresponds to the extended search string of the Post method.
- By checking the POST box you specify that the POST method should be used for this search.

Encoding sets the character encoding of International characters the search query.

Searchtype specifies the search type of a Search engine.
0 = default search engine
2 = Super search
12 = Find in page
14 = History Search
50 = Dictionary
51 = Encyclopaedia
52 = Translate currency
100–117 = Translate
- The value corresponds to the Position of the search field in the Personal bar.
Choose -1 to hide it from the toolbar.
- Enable Separator will set separators under the search entry in the search.ini.
Final:
- control your choice
- quit Opera
- save
- ready
