Project Powder from Outspark is one of the few games combining the MMO atmosphere with racing type games. As a snowboarding game with MMO options PP offers a well constructed and defined gaming experience. It is important to note however this game is in Beta Testing meaning that the games elements and features almost certainly will change as the game continues to grow.
Game play:
Being a snowboarding game the boundaries of game play are set pretty tight, regardless of this PP has created a set of three game types which offer both casual and more serious play.
Race mode is as its name suggests the classic racing style that most snowboarding games are based around. Flying down an almost vertical mountain at 100 km/hr has never been quite so much fun. The game offers a 'Boost' system which is based on the tricks performed by the user during game play, i.e. the better your tricks the faster you can go.
Coin Race is similar to the race mode although instead of battling for first place players sweep the course collecting coins and just as easily losing them. This mode is both fun and profitable because in almost all cases the coins you collect go straight into your bank.
Battle Race is a game style pretty common in racing games, put in to spice up the game play to keep it from becoming tedious.
All of these game options are playable over the now updated list of stages ranging from the snow scene to grassy hills of some far off planet. Plays can choose to play the games Free for all or in teams in which every twist and turn will boost you team or send you straight to the black list.
As for in game items the list has been appended somewhat with new clothes and accessories available to spice up your look. Items are available for purchase using either in game money or Spark Cash for a period of 7 or 30 days. There is also an Upgrade system which adds points to your stats boosting various abilities such as speed and turning. As you progress through the game your character gains levels opening new tricks and challenges within the game.
With an easy to navigate user interface as well as an endless supply of help options the game has done well in providing an in depth game with options for both casual and hardcore gamers.
Graphics/Soundtrack:
As is the case with all outspark games the graphics tend to be in the middle of realistic and cartoony, with some well designed landscapes and cartoony characters the game is aimed to be fun yet serious which is a nice touch keeping hardcore games down to earth and casual games involved. The graphics aren’t super high performance giving graphics cards a nice rest while still providing a good atmosphere.
As for the soundtrack it is a little primitive and limited but the game works well without it, there isn’t any major speech in the game besides small emote lines such as 'Hi' and laughter. Either way the game isn’t about the sound and muting it and playing iTunes in the background should work just fine.
Conclusion:
Well what else can I say this game is GOOD, if it weren't free id buy it, and luckily it is! So go download it have a play and join the world of Project Powder. This game is a must play for anyone looking for a good snowboarding game whilst the tricks and slopes remain unrealistic the online play opens up new challenges with every race. The game is user friendly and perfect for any gaming level diffidently a game to play this winter (or summer for those up north).
