Quote of the Week

Hells yeah. I read this today and i would like to shake the hand of the person who came up with this. Or kiss them on the head even. It's so well put and so, so true. Sigh.

London Times- Quote of the Week

“South Africa is the only country in the world where affirmative action is in the favour of the majority who has complete political control. The fact that the political majority requires affirmative action (BEE) to protect them against a 9% minority group is testament to a complete failure on their part to build their own wealth making structures, such that their only solution is to take it from others.” Finally, a word recently coined to describe South Africa’s current political situation.

Ineptocracy (in-ep-toc’-ra-cy) -

a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers."

Whoa...this is so interesting.
And harsh.

WillYum Tuesday, April 17, 2012 4:56:32 PM

Fascinating. So there's no truth to the idea that nearly 50 years of subjugation has left that majority so ill-equipped to "build their own wealth making structures" that they need state assistance?

Just curious.

Nope, it's just left people with a huge sense of entitlement and a feeling that they don't NEED to work and make their own wealth because of 'the oppression'.

Institutionalized victimization? Doesn't sound very progressive 'round that part of the world... sad But we can always use your type of thinking 'round these parts! smile

I'm curious how one learns to generate "wealth" if they haven't been taught it?

Pineas2 Wednesday, April 18, 2012 7:42:50 AM

Wellywell, but this is the same system (more or less) we are using in Europe. But we lower the costs of government by only allowing our presidents one wife.

The thing is, the people my age now never went through apartheid, never were affected directly by it, had the same schooling opportunities as whites (even more thanks to them being allowed to get into university before whites) so we are all on an equal playing field when it comes to generating and learning how to generate wealth now. One of the richest men in SA is black, he went through apartheid, so how did he conquer and rise above?

As a side note, I am thinking Henry is secretly trying to get us to immigrate to Canada wink

I am reading a book with references to how Abraham Lincoln used to be against criticism completely and how it made so many more positive changes.

maybe his DNA needs to be cloned and sent to lead all our countries and whip em into shape.

I once read an article about Eleanor Roosevelt Roosevelt, Americas First Lady in the days of WW2. Wow, what a lady!

She supported e.g. the idea of afroamericans serving as pilots in the USAF. And when President Roosevelt was sick for his polio she made decisions for him together with his chief of staff (and not the worst decisions...)

She was awesome and a rumored lesbian up (more points in my book, they found some interesting letters to her best girl friend that were a bit intimate but never published much I don't think)

Bianca, hopefully you'll get a better leader, or.. you could always run for office happy

Well, in south african politics there are some folkloristic aspects. But why not? Somewhen...

Anne: "She was awesome and a rumored lesbian" I read somewhere that she played in both leagues.

Ah... fascinating.

On a related note, I did some research on the Safrican Constitution. My criticisms seem to echo your reality. Interesting.
