Ahoy!

Let's see some ID...

Alice in Wonderland

Ok so last night i read Alice in Wonderland for the first time ever (i know i know, shocking!) and after reading it, i felt like i had just come off some insane opium binge. Lewis Carrol, WHAT WERE YOU ON?! Well it makes sense because 5 out of 6 households back then were on opium but good grief i had to force myself to concentrate on what was going on half the time because it jumps from one place to another and all the little songs inbetween.. faint But in same instances, the writing is so clever! The use of puns and play on words is great! I liked the Gryphon and the Dormouse the best for some reason and i love how everyone is so mean to Alice (esp at the Mad-Hatters tea party) lol Silly little girl! Like she's suddenly stupid because she's the only sane one.. ha! i love it.

There was the biggest storm this morning! Like at one point when there was lightening you could here it starting at one point and physically RIPPING through the sky.. MAJOR! Am not going in to tech today because the first years are having their evaluation and trying to find a lecturer today will be like trying to find a lion in a pet shop. Impossible. (yes guys, even for Africa p )

Chop.Cherries, Artichokes and Zooey?

Apparently, lice in Womderland is all based on maths. I have it on my self, must actually read the bugger.

Automated Alice by Jeff Noon isn't bad, either.

Good luck with the study! And find me a lion! bigsmile

ShallowMuse Monday, November 9, 2009 8:39:07 AM

Lice in Womberland? Funniest typo EVER! lol lol
Sigh! Do you want a boy lion or a girl lion then? *gets out order form*

HenrySpicyFlier Monday, November 9, 2009 10:16:25 AM

"Lice in Womberland"?? Must have been on insane opium binge - or just types too fast without proofreading.

If you were quick enough, B, you could have recorded this storm on video and sold it to major movie companies as backdrop for horror movies and other scary events!!

ShallowMuse Monday, November 9, 2009 10:21:02 AM

Haha Henry! It was at like 5am, the only action i took was running to switch the computer off in case of lightening attack!

HenrySpicyFlier Monday, November 9, 2009 10:33:13 AM

Good call! up Someone mentioned to me a while ago about coiling the computer power cord. If a large power spike does hit, it will be neutralized before getting to the PC. Don't quote me on that, I'll have to research it.

Gavin Tripp-Sheedygarlingmatthews Monday, November 9, 2009 11:23:15 AM

Research it how? bigsmile I'm highy dubious, and coiled wires can overheat all on their own.

I'm at work, tping on brakes, but really, ye've never heard of Lice in Womberland? bigsmile

ShallowMuse Monday, November 9, 2009 12:28:22 PM

This calls for Mythbusters! Raaa! Gavin dont even tempt me.. I have ideas for a Lice in Womberland book already... lol

Mrs. HermitessHermitess Monday, November 9, 2009 12:51:20 PM

I think I read that book ages ago. Don't remember most of it now.

mmm... think it'd give me strange dreams? p

Lightening is cool to watch! Providing it isn't striking me. wink

Eheh, I also didn't read Alice in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass until last year :x

I add a great time reading them, really great scenes and moments but you do wonder what the hell was he smoking at the time 0_o

*searches google for hallucinogenics to write the follow up and hopes to get rich with it*

ShallowMuse Friday, November 20, 2009 6:06:37 PM

lol Opium must be quite strong then to produce situations such as in AIW!

sorry, had to quote you, i'm not nerd enough to explain it properly but i use this to
protect my Mac from electrical problems:

B, i just discovered your Alice post, i so love the Alice books, they are my inspiration
& Lewis Carroll is my all time favourite author. they are based on maths
& all kinds of coded stuff,
Through the Looking Glass is a chess game. etc. etc.
crazy to think they were written in the Victorian era.

And earlier tonight we were discussing the Alice books
in the English conversation group that i animate.

Wow! the Alice books, i'm re-reading them now.
you chose a great illustration B...

My mac came with a power protecting thingey.

Alice does indeed rock.

is it an external thingy or something inside your Mac, this thingy ?

Gavin Tripp-Sheedygarlingmatthews Tuesday, September 14, 2010 7:55:57 PM

An external thingey. 60W MagSafe Power Adapter.

is it an apple thingy or a thingy made by someone else ?

I wanted to see which thingy was correct.
I couldn't find your thingey.
But i did find my thingy:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=thingy

Gavin Tripp-Sheedygarlingmatthews Tuesday, September 14, 2010 8:26:39 PM

It came with my MacBook, in the box. It was one of the selling points on their web site at the time, November 2008.

hmm!aaronwriter Tuesday, September 14, 2010 8:39:20 PM

we're getting somewhere, didn't know it was a MacBook.
The thing i gave the link for is a thingy i bought for
my iMac. my MacBook has an adapter too, but i don't know
if it's the same as yours, will check tomorrow as it's
later & i'm working in bed.

did you check out the thingy thing, or maybe where
you live they have thingeys.

Gavin Tripp-Sheedygarlingmatthews Tuesday, September 14, 2010 8:43:51 PM

It's one of the silver chasis MacBooks.

As it's not a real word, it's probably optional. I've read a lot of books printed in the fifties, so my spelling tends to the old-fashioned!

hmm!aaronwriter Tuesday, September 14, 2010 8:50:10 PM

did you check out the Urbain dictionary link i gave.
it's interesting for slang etc.
i use it to learn american slang.

mine is aluminum (silver) too!
& the adapter is a sort of square white plastic thingy.

Gavin Tripp-Sheedygarlingmatthews Tuesday, September 14, 2010 8:53:29 PM

I did. And so is mine. Check out what's written on it, I bet it says the same as mine.

hmm!aaronwriter Tuesday, September 14, 2010 9:01:06 PM

you're right it is the same thingy as yours,
it's just plugged in beside the bed.so was easy to check.
so you think these thingys will protect our
MacBooks from lightening?
because the thingy i bought for the iMac is huge,
compared to these little thingys.

Gavin Tripp-Sheedygarlingmatthews Tuesday, September 14, 2010 9:16:44 PM

Well, lightening, I don't know. I don't trust anything to protect my stuff from lightening. But general power spikes, yes. I started protecting all of my stuff, and I haven't needed to replace anything since. Previously, My D.V.D. player and stereo got fried, plus possibly the iMac; the hard disc burnt on that. It now lives with my ex's mum.

hmm!aaronwriter Tuesday, September 14, 2010 9:26:45 PM

the thingy i gave the link to is guaranteed for lightening etc. up to i forget how much money but a lot, plus there is a built in battery to keep it running for awhile again for some nerdy reason which i can't remember, but it's supposed to be one of the best on the market...lol

Gavin Tripp-Sheedygarlingmatthews Tuesday, September 14, 2010 9:30:49 PM

I'm not sure, really. I think that it was a power spike, but it got some pretty heavy usage as well.

Afford what? I'm on a bit of an internet diet; no internet at home, and now on holiday in South Africa.

hmm!aaronwriter Tuesday, September 14, 2010 9:37:02 PM

bad joke not about you, i've edited it out...

Gavin Tripp-Sheedygarlingmatthews Tuesday, September 14, 2010 9:45:07 PM

So now I look crazy p

hmm!aaronwriter Tuesday, September 14, 2010 9:48:23 PM

no you won't, you can edit too.

Gavin Tripp-Sheedygarlingmatthews Tuesday, September 14, 2010 9:50:45 PM

No, more fun to be confusing. p

hmm!aaronwriter Tuesday, September 14, 2010 9:51:32 PM

why don't you have the internet at home?
you can have the internet in Safrica.
just connect to the wifi in the hotel?
or the friends you're staying with, not forgetting
free wifi hotspots.

Gavin Tripp-Sheedygarlingmatthews Tuesday, September 14, 2010 9:55:51 PM

I moved at the beginning of last month. I gave my provider seven weeks notice, but they're not very organised, apparently. I'm on the hotel internet, but it's capped, so I can't do anything demanding on it, or it gets cut off for everybody; and I don't want to take my computer out with me.

do you mean take it on a date like to McDonald's lol
or take it to Safrica?

Gavin Tripp-Sheedygarlingmatthews Tuesday, September 14, 2010 10:03:45 PM

Take it out on the mean streets. I like to keep my value to muggers to a bare minimum.

hmm!aaronwriter Tuesday, September 14, 2010 10:10:22 PM

i carry my MacBook in a cloth shopping bag on my shoulder
so it doesn't look like i'm carrying a laptop.
i'll post some photos about it.
i don't want to lose my MacBook either.
