The Sri Lankan national cricket team was attacked by armed gunmen today. Up to 12 gunmen attacked the team's convoy near the Gaddafi stadium with rockets, hand grenades and automatic weapons. The team had to be eventually air lifted out in military choppers.

Six members of the Sri Lankan team, including the coach, have been reportedly injured and five security personnel were killed in the assault.

The militants escaped after a 25 minute gun battle with the police.

This is a sad day for cricket, and sport in general. :frown:

It is sad. I don't understand, why would they shoot at cricketers?

To create political turmoil and to undermine the cililian government in Pakistan.

The Indian cricket team had cancelled its tour citing security reasons. So we sent our team to New Zealand, and Sri Lanka sent theirs to Pakistan.
Now with all cricketing nations opting not to play in Pakistan, it will become an isolated nation, just like these terrorists would like it to be.
