Well I decided to try out FF3 to see if it was better than FF2. I can easily say it is, seems faster and such, though it doesn't seem as fast as Opera.
Personally I really enjoy Opera's functionality, so I decided to try and make FF3 act kinda like Opera. I guess one of the good points is that you can do that, change things up and junk.
It took about 5 'extensions' to make it feel right to me. Here's the list:
AdBlock Plus - Gives the ability to block unwanted content.
All-in-One Sidebar - Adds the quick-click sidebar functionality.
Fast Dial - Basically Opera's Speed Dial, but with more options.
FireGestures - Like Opera's gestures but again with more options.
Undo Closed Tabs Button - Not included with FF for some reason.
Looking through the popular 'extensions' I found these ones:
DownloadThemAll! - Opera almost has this functionality, but this is so much easier.
NoScript - Turns off scripts for all sites and then you allow sites you trust.
PicLens - Kinda neat but gimmicky GUI thing for looking at pictures on the web.
Yet Another Smooth Scrolling - Gives options for smooth scrolling.
All in all, I'm both impressed and unimpressed. Part of me doesn't like it because w/o extensions the browser is just barren and empty. Opera is a full featured web browser, email client, IRC client, and Torrent manager. I admit it's sometimes hard/impossible to add things to Opera, but it's probably better for security and privacy anyways.
So FF has functionality, but Opera has performance & security. I'm kinda torn.

It's only been, what, 2 years since my last post? ^_^; Well I'll try to post more, but honestly I'm quite happy with 9.1 and am just looking forward to 10, hopefully with MNG and JP2 support (as well as many other things).

security, ftw
It's cool that Securna have no issues with Opera 8.x
Technically that means that Opera is the most secure browser out there. With less issues to begin with, of which all of the problems have been addressed, and all of the issues have been of a lower critical level than Firefox or IE.
We win.

bugs
I guess I'm out of the current 9.0 testing. I changed an option and it messed up the GUI and such. So I'm just gunna wait for the Beta.
And yes I reported it, but no one else had the problem. *shrugs* I guess I must have broken it somehow by changing an option you can change using ctrl+F12. If that's possible.

wishful thinking
A nice thing that Opera could try is putting out some tools that make things for you. Like a skin maker, a userjs maker/editor, etc. Just a thought.

opera, free, downloads, bandwidth
Wow, that's absolutely nuts! How in the world are they paying for all that bandwidth?!
2,400,000 (downloads) x 3,689 (Kbytes) = 8,853,600,000 (8.8TB!!!)
I've gotten a few to try the software (now it has no banner, they don't have an excuse not to try it). And quite a few of them are sticking with Opera thanks to it's feature rich browser.
Keep it up Opera Software!

Finally.. dropping Verizon and their false 1500/256 service (only getting 500/100). Gotta pay about 2x as much, but holy moley, ~5x more upload alone! ^_^

Been playin' around with it for a while now, and have only found one real problem with it. So instead of ranting and raving about how great it is (because it is great), I'll just post about the one (big) problem I found, which I've posted here on the boards:
http://my.opera.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=89059Hopefully such things will be fixed in the next release.
