An Irish Prayer

May there always be work for your hands to do;

May your purse always hold a coin or two;

May the sun always shine on your windowpane;

May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain;

May the hand of a friend always be near you;

May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

The Auld Hoose

Lonely I wonder through scenes of my childhood,
They bring back the memories of those happy days of yore.
Gone are the old folk, the house stands deserted.
No lights in the windows, no welcome at the door.

Here's where the the children played games on the heather
and here's where they sailed their wee boats in the burn.
Where are they now, some are dead, some have wondered.
No more to their homes will those children return.

Lone is the house now and lonely the moorelands.
The children have scattered, the old fold have gone.
Why stand I here - like a ghost, or a shadow.
It's time I was moving - it's time I passed on...
