Garden spider Araneus diadematus
The UK has very few spiders that are physically capable of biting people, but they do exist. This walnut orb weaver Nuctenea umbratica is not quite as terrifying as she looks but not a species to pick up. They hunt moths by night, and this one is spending her days hiding in the wall in lieu of a walnut tree.
I also spotted a tubeweb spider lurking in its funnel on a nearby woodland bank, but both it and its web had vanished when I paid a visit with the camera
These are abundant, although I haven't identified them yet.
