Dusk

The half moon is rising :right:

Foxes lope across darkening fields, betrayed only by their ice-white brush tips

Sub-adult deer tiptoe on cloven hooves out of the hedgerows...

...while their elders graze in the open, unaware or uncaring that they're sharing their meadow with a curious, travelling fox

Dawn

September sunrise :D

Autumn's hazy light is reflected by a million draping strands of spider silk bug

And old seed heads have been gifted tiaras of sparkling dew.

And up on the wires and bushtops, my big wildlife surprise of the weekend: a noisy, restless flock of tree (?) pipits, a species I've never recorded in my local area before.

That's a beautiful shot of the dawn  It's odd what turns up unexpectedly. The pipits are sweet little things. I saw several (meadow?) pipits up by the local golf course today.

Darko 27. September 2009, 05:59

No problem for me spotting foxes in both photos

Shaunak De 27. September 2009, 06:59

Spectacular shots. Especially of the sunrise!

Adele 27. September 2009, 20:12

@Sprogger - thankyou! Photography should be easier now that the year has turned.

Adele 27. September 2009, 20:13

@Jenny - thanks  Yes, and literally cool too

Adele 27. September 2009, 20:13

@Erwin - thanks! I looked at your pipit ID post for help with these! :D

Adele 27. September 2009, 20:14

@Robin - the pipits were great fun to watch, very noisy and flying up and down from their bushes  I don't know where they've suddenly come from; I've never noticed them here before :right:

Thanks!

Adele 27. September 2009, 20:15

@Elke - thankyou, and I hope your weekend was peaceful

Adele 27. September 2009, 20:15

@Stardancer - I think this is the best time of year, for sure

Thanks!

Adele 27. September 2009, 20:16

@Jari - yes, there's something happening everywhere

Thanks!

Adele 27. September 2009, 20:21

@Words - thanks! This seems to be the autumn of the pipits!

Adele 27. September 2009, 20:22

@Darko - oh good  I could be really sneaky here and ask you if the fox with the deer is the same one in the meadow

Adele 27. September 2009, 20:23

@Shaunak - thankyou  Our autumn sunrises are pretty, and winter ones are often even better!

Darko 27. September 2009, 21:29

*cheks*
No, the first one is male P:

Adele 27. September 2009, 21:40

I'm pretty sure that the first fox is an intruder from the other end of the road, actually :eyes: The resident dogfox in that meadow is the huge, rufous, broad-headed male who likes sleeping in the grass (he's appeared on here fairly often).

Yeah, they are different, but I know that principally because no one fox could have covered that distance in the allotted time

A great time of year.... Harvest moon time.

Nice sunrise shot, my favourite time of day although I think i prefer nigh time to day time :D

No pipits for me :frown:
Although plenty of collared doves, my old favourites the crows and there's thousand upon thousand of pink footed geese arriving just now.

Mark Jones 1. October 2009, 04:28

Lovelly photos :D Last Tuesday evening i saw the just over Half Moon next to Jupiter and took photos, it was a nice sight.

Talking of planets.....Adele and all who visit here.

This week should be good for spotting Mercury rising just before the Sun rises and just after Venus has risen.

Not a planet we get to see very often, so I think it is something worth a look(a sea view to the east will be best, but if not then as good a horizon as you can find, inland dwellers might need to find a nice hill). Saturn rises just after Mercury, but i doubt we'll see it as it'll be too close to the sun and almost as far away as it gets from us.

Adele 1. October 2009, 11:20

@Sean - thanks very much for the heads-up! It just so happens that I will be by the sea this weekend, so here's hoping for a cloudless dawn! :D I've only ever seen Mercury once.

The most obvious winter migrants in the North Downs are finches - bramblings, siskins - and thrushes like redwings.

Thanks!

Adele 1. October 2009, 11:21

@Mark - yes, I saw how close they were a couple of nights ago :D

Thanks!

sean brechin 1. October 2009, 11:44

No problem, anytime....

OH aye, Orionids later this month too(20th-24th ish) and with a new moon on the 18th it should be nice and dark compared with this years Perseid shower.

Adele 1. October 2009, 19:07

Would be good to see some Orionids on my birthday on the 25th! Let's just hope the clouds cooperate... :D And yeah, the Perseids were a complete lightwash (? is that a word?) for me.

Seeing Deer is something that I wish

Adele your blog is really cool for finding relaxation flirt

Adele 1. October 2009, 19:45

Thanks! I often find the walks relaxing, and I guess that shows a little

I'm quite fortunate with my deer sightings around my local area but they are often rather shy and elusive creatures.

nasim 1. October 2009, 20:05

Yes I know , but in my country deer is an especial animal and we have a lots of historical story about them and in past deer used as a symbol for paintings on containers

Adele 1. October 2009, 20:22

Persian fallow deer, I think  They're very beautiful. I'd like to learn more about any legends etc connected with them  Is there a good website out there about them? Also, what did they symbolise?

It is now :D ...... or you could use moonwash.

I think when it happens from the sun we call it.... ermmm... daylight..... which sounds a bit lame for a solar radiation blast.

nasim 1. October 2009, 21:00

I can't find any website for this but I will find something for you , maybe I shoe them in my blog ... if I do it I will tell you
