Over Hill and Plain

, ,

A catchup post - my album from my Saskatchewan trip is now online  Please have a look.

__

British blogging will take over again now, at least for a while  I visited Leith Hill on Sunday. This highest point in south-east England is not actually in the North Downs, but rather in the parallel Greensand Ridge. It's rather too crowded for wildlife watching, at least on the weekend, but
the views are pleasant.

And finally, on a completely different note  a small tribute to my shoe-hunting foxes! :bandit:

I'm a relatively new subscriber, but I'm guessing that somewhere in your archive there is an account of shoe-hunting by foxes.

Anyway, cute drawing!

Just went through the new photo album, as well. Super work!

Andy Wilson 28. October 2009, 00:49

Some great photos. I especially like the ground squirrel in the grass.
The Opera slideshow makes viewing a lot easier and faster.

Robin 28. October 2009, 01:33

Very nice album. I already have my favorites picked out!
I think the lone Bison is one of them. So regal.
I really like the coyote hiding behind the tuft of grass too.
All the rest at great too, of course.
I like your cartoon as well. I can just picture the fox doing that!

Stardancer 28. October 2009, 03:06

Great photo album, Adele. And I reallyreallyreally like the shot of the sun through the leaves up there. That is just beautiful.

Darko 28. October 2009, 05:31

You think she jumped on your shoe like that?

Norfrid 28. October 2009, 07:58

There were so many wanderful photos in your new album.
Nice drawing too.

ERWIN 28. October 2009, 08:26

All great photos Adele well done

Mark Jones 28. October 2009, 09:04

Thats a beautiful album :D i love the shoe hunting fox picture

Nicolas Borgsmidt 28. October 2009, 12:46

I´m so happy when you draw  Have started up myself again!

Lois 28. October 2009, 17:31

I love the way you've captured the feeling of height in the trees.

Words 28. October 2009, 22:20

Nice drawing! The photos from the trip are great. So good to see the American badger, and the coyotes are beautiful. The local weather must seem almost tropical to you after all that.

Shaunak De 29. October 2009, 09:31

Beautiful pictures, but an even more beautiful drawing!

Adele 29. October 2009, 20:16

@Deb - ah, yes, perhaps I should have explained that cartoon more! They often come with a shoe fixation, which can reach amazing proportions (a fox in Germany recently stole about 100 shoes, all of which were found in the woodland around her den!) They "borrow" my shoes from time to time. This was the most recent incident that I put on my blog, but it has happened since then also...

Thankyou! It was a wonderful trip and I cannot wait to go back.

Adele 29. October 2009, 20:19

@Andy - thanks! Wonderful land, and so rich in wildlife. You could spend years there and still be seeing new species.

Adele 29. October 2009, 20:22

@Robin - thankyou! I'm glad that you enjoyed the pictures. I would like to see the Manitoba side of the prairies as well one day. The whole zone is so vast that I think it would take even a wolf a lifetime to learn it!

I'm sure the foxes found uses for that shoe that the manufacturers could never have possibly considered!

Adele 29. October 2009, 20:23

@Star - thankyou! I saw the light shining through the wood and really wanted to capture it one way or the other...

Adele 29. October 2009, 20:23

@Darko - I don't know. She's refused to tell me :frown:

Adele 29. October 2009, 20:25

@Norfrid - thankyou! One of the best trips that I've ever had to Canada.

Adele 29. October 2009, 20:25

@Erwin - thankyou! :smile:

Adele 29. October 2009, 20:25

@Mark - thanks! One day I will photograph a fox doing just that p:

Adele 29. October 2009, 20:28

@Nic - I'm in a mood for digital art at the moment  It's different. I sketched this fox in pencil, scanned it in, and then coloured it using semi-opaque layers.

I'm so glad that you've started drawing again! When you're ready to show the results, I'll keen to see them!

Adele 29. October 2009, 20:29

@Lois - thanks! The light wasn't the greatest that day for long distance shots so I was more interested in the woodland and its effects.

Adele 29. October 2009, 20:30

@Words - well, oddly though, it's so much wetter here that it feels rather more wintry, even though it was seriously chilly at times in the prairies.

Thanks! I certainly didn't expect to come back with badger photos. They were a real treat

Adele 29. October 2009, 20:32

@Shaunak - thankyou! I submitted the fox to the 10,000 Fox project, and he's up on there now :D

Nicolas Borgsmidt 29. October 2009, 20:34

All in all. You´re creative and producing

I´ll let you know when I release a drawing in a post Adele

Adele 29. October 2009, 21:45

Well, I have to be constantly engaged on some project or other. I don't take boredom very well :insane:

Thanks!

Nicolas Borgsmidt 29. October 2009, 22:20

Why is that? I love boredom. It´s like pressing down a spring. When you´re ready; BOINNNGG off you go being active, creative,busy..whatever

Adele 29. October 2009, 22:25

Well, we all operate in different ways, but I guess I don't like slowing down at all! I get headaches if I'm bored...

@Deb - LOL!

Adele 30. October 2009, 20:33

@Elke - hello! The foxes always make me smile when they take an interest in shoes, so hopefully that comes across in this sketch!

I had a wonderful trip to Saskatchewan and am looking forward to hopefully spending longer there next year  Thanks! :D
