Kitab At-Tawheed, it translates something as as "The book of Oneness of God." The book is well written, in an easy to read format, it just jots down all the necessary aspect followed by concurrent evidences from scripture. It is somewhat methodical in the way it is written and I believe if you are an academic you might really appreciate and relate to the way the book is written. Even if you are a lay person you should not be put off, you would appreciate the ease in reading the book, actually the book was written to be accessible to the general mass. You might want to accompany the book with series of lectures it helps if you have question or need anything cleared up.
Author:
He is Muhhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab, born 1703–1792, a Sunni Islamic Scholar Born in Najd in present day Saudi Arabia.
The author is actually very famous. He is known amongst the Muslim worlds all over and he is even suprising known here too. It is where the ignorant west derived the term "Wahhabi" from, but I personally don't believe it is anything got to do with ignorance rather propaganda tool for the ignorant. If you are smart you can judge how ignorant a person is about the subject he emphatically uses the word Wahhabi for or/and which way he is leaning.
He is also disliked especially amongst the shia and some sufis because of theological differences (clue: read the Book) which the Shia and some sufis have with Sunnism in general (thats what usually makes it funny).
So the word is used amongst the West, some sufis and Shias and their are other groups, but rarely and never for the same reason. Funny it was a sufi who was the one told me not to read the book and that it should be burned but it was not because it contained heresy but the opposite.
He is a scholar who led a revolution with the help from the "House of Saud" at a time when ignorance prevailed and all manner of lawlessness and debauchery prevalent.
He was successful in what he set out to do, bring back tawheed to the land,...and afterwards Saud and his progeny established what is known as Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
There is a downloadable pdf Biography on his life which is far more interesting thant the dribble I wrote (and Wikipidia) and it is free. PM me if you are interested.
The Book:
I would just get down to it. I am believer of read for youself and Judge for youself, but try thinking before that. Anyway here it is. It is freely available online here: Kitaab At-Tawheed by Shaikh Imam Muhammad Abdul-Wahhab
